“The rooster crow will definitely come back.”

Scott Stricklin’s working group, which decided it would be a swell idea during games to allow recorded music between plays and up until the point the quarterback gets in position at the line, is going to have a lot to answer for this fall.

Though prerecorded music was restricted, bands were allowed to play in between plays. Nichols said there are musical dead periods for the start of the game, before halftime and after halftime — when the band made its way back to its seats in the stadium after pregame ceremonies and going to and from the field for the halftime performance.

Those times are when Nichols and his team would look to take advantage of the rule change.

Not a moment’s peace.

I wonder when somebody will have the bright idea to monetize the dead periods with advertisements.

Can we start referring to him as ‘AD Scott Stricklin’? That way I can stop asking myself why the hell Georgia’s baseball coach cares about football music…

I miss Sanford Stadium less and less. Or any live venue apparently.

      yup.

I don’t think I’m just getting old, either. Who wants to “relax” by getting screamed at for a few hours? Even on those rare cases where I can watch cfb on TV for long stretches on a Saturday, I come away feeling like I’ve gone through some sort of Clockwork Orange programming session. It’s like my brain needs to go to a spa all by itself.

      I should probably TIVO, right?

I’ll say this. At Jordan-Hare Stadium last fall, after the JHC play, the Auburn band played the fight song and the place was going nuts. Absolutely crazy. Extra point, fight song. And then they absolutely CRANKED the sound system with Lil’ John’s “Outta Your Mind”. Loud bass, and louuuuud music. And that place was freaking electric. Students all dancing. Old people dancing. Most of the day at the stadium, the music wasn’t very intrusive. But man, they picked their moments to get that place fired up.

I want that at Sanford Stadium. If they do it right, and don’t play random songs every time there’s a stoppage in play, then they can improve the energy level in that stadium. It was fun.

GD, I feel ya, I really do…but doesn’t THAT play in THAT situation get the “old folks” dancin’ anyway? I mean I’d be outta my mind – band, piped in music, or funeral pianist or none. I’m just afraid their gonna over do it. Maybe not even at first, but eventually.. I’m just scared nothing is sacred.

Dancing to what? The Redcoats? Hardly. That’s a loud music situation and they had some loud music ready to go. I’m not saying blast it every second of every day.

Also, when we’re throwing around the word “sacred” we should probably keep in mind that we’re talking about a game being played by 20 year olds and who have cheers led for them by kids in animal costumes. This isn’t a rite in a temple. It’s not life and death. It’s sports.

It was electric and rocking because of the play. Lil dipshits music had nothing to do with it.

I’m sorry that you don’t like rap music. Our players do and our students do. I’m in my mid 30’s and I’ll get old enough to hate the young folks’ music eventually, but I sure hope that I’ll keep in mind that college football is primarily for the college kids.

Lil’ Dipshit is doing just fine without your patronage.

I’m in my mid-30s too, and am totally against piped in music and cutting out the Redcoats. There is no doubt Jordan-Hare was shaking, but to attribute it to the music is a little much; there was a once in a lifetime play, at night, against their ancient rival. Maybe if we ever get a big game at night again, Sanford will really hum to the Redcoats.
Look at a place like Tennessee, where basically all their band plays anymore is “Rocky Top”; it’s been so sterile there the last two trips, the fireworks that shake the place are about the only atmosphere…
I sure as he’ll won’t miss that rooster if the cocks aren’t going to be crowing it anymore though…

I’m a UMaine hockey season ticket holder. This season the announcer does local commercials whenever the whistle stops play. Startled the first few times. Now just annoyed. Coming soon to a football field near you!

It’s already at Sanford Stadium. Every video board displays corporate logos and the voice of Sanford Stadium drones on about a LOT of corporate sponsorships when he’s not pimping the research professors of the game. Frankly, I’d rather listen to rap music. Or the band. Or whatever else isn’t whoring out the stadium.
