Carroll, please.

If Pete Carroll had only known that the NCAA was going to throw the book at Southern Cal…

“Had we known that that was imminent … I would never have been able to leave under those circumstances. When I look back now, I would have stayed there to do what we needed to do to resolve the problem.”

In the background, if you can’t hear it, is the world’s saddest song being played on the world’s smallest violin.

“And what does he feel about Bush today, knowing what he knows now? ‘I still don’t know the details…”’

No one could have predicted that what Pete doesn’t know could not hurt him

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but, should Carroll be considered a better coach than Nick Saban? Carroll won titles in the NCAA and the NFL. Nick and Spurrier both shit the bed as coaches in the NFL.

I would say so. Saban and Spurrier win with players. I hate Carroll, but he wins period. I think his first stint in the NFL sucked though didn’t it?

NO not better than Saban at the college level. And that Seattle roster was loaded in Seattle when he took that job. he got lucky with that cause I think Saban or even Les Miles or Mark Richt could have taken that team to the SB

Carroll never took a doormat and put it over the hump. What he did at USC is similar to what Spurrier did at UF, but Pete has never done what SOS did at Duke or is doing at South Carolina. I’m more impressed with Spurrier’s work in Columbia than anything and I think he had a point when he noted Saban’s only won at places with histories of winning and built-in advantages.

So, I’d put Spurrier one, Carroll two (although I suspect he knew how out-of-bounds they were playing at USC), and Saban three (admittedly because he seems to be joyless about the whole thing).

And don’t forget, Spurrier did pretty well with the Tampa Bay Bandits. Admittedly not the NFL, but still something. It’s amazing how bad an owner that guy in DC really is.

Off topic but 9,500 fewer seats in Jacksonville may pave the way for the end of the cocktail party.

I have less concern about PC getting out before the bricks fell on his head than his lying about it. The whole country knew how bad that situation with Bush was for years before the NCAA ever stepped up to it. How does a family recently arrived in LA, working two security jobs, afford to live in a Million dollar plus home without something being paid under the table? He may not have video of the cash exchange taking place like Johnny Cash’s deal in the motel room for signing A&M merchandise, or OJ Simpson slashing two people to death, but he knew how dirty it was. Just say you thought it was time to move on, but don’t pretend you wish you had stayed around for the crash.

Ooooh, REGGIE Bush. At first I was wondering what Pete could have possibly known about GEORGE and Iraq. My bad. Carry on.

Carroll has not lacked for talent in Seattle, but he’s an outstanding coach.

He’s also a lying bastard. I’m getting a little sick of people going on TV and telling lies so transparent that it insults our intelligence

    • Me too. He’s a good coach, but not on Saban’s level as a college coach. His character flaws eventually catch up to him at the college level, no matter what program he was running.

We’ll see how that works on the pro level. It has before, but the jury’s still out on Carroll in the pros.
