He forgot to remember to forget.

They’re hoping for big things out of Georgia refugee Tray Matthews at Auburn next season.  Here’s one thing they think he’s got going for him:

And there’s one thing working in his favor that many might not have thought about, Holsey said. Since Matthews never had to memorize the concepts in former coordinator Ellis Johnson’s 4-2-5 scheme, he won’t have to force himself to forget them now.

That should only help his cause as he vies for playing time under the Tigers’ new defensive coordinator, Will Muschamp.

“He didn’t really know the terminology for the last defense,” Holsey said. “So his first experience (at Auburn) is going to be a fresh start with Coach Muschamp.”

If not memorizing defensive concepts is a major deal on the Plains, dude, then Matthews ought to be on his way to superstardom, because it never appeared that he knew the terminology for his first defense, either.

Well, he’s already been a big contributor at Auburn.

One thing about Boom: he doesn’t tolerate knuckleheads. “Trigga” was a certifiable pain in the ass from the time he arrived in Athens to the time he was thrown out on his ass. I feel confident he was the ringleader of the check cashing scam as well as of the cultural rot in the 2013 secondary. Honestly, I’d be less surprised if he never plays a down at Auburn than I would be if he flourishes.

I hate to wish bad luck on anyone…..pffftt, yeah hell I do!!! I hope him and that lazy arse Garner are tossed out together! Hugging and crying and cursing as the walk out together. In an age where sports are filled with big babies, Trigga is one of the biggest babies out there.

I have heard that Matthews is a great student displaying exemplary behavior at Auburn. I know the kid was nothing but bad attitude and trouble while in Athens, but maybe he has seen the light. Either way, I believe his talent was, and will be, missed at UGA.

    • Not to offend, but that is one of the stranger comments I have read in a few weeks. As a “great student” will he now be leading study groups instead of yelling down professors? Or maybe you’re simply playing off your rep with some sarcastic bombast?

I’m not sure if it’s sarcasm or not, but the fact that he didn’t bother to learn the playbook (he had no way of knowing Johnson wouldn’t be there) strikes me as the same type of entitled, lazy, I’ll just get by in talent, attitude he displayed here. I’m not opening rooting for something bad to happen, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to being pulling for him. Like I said, I think he was the ringleader of the most disfunctional position group I’ve ever seen at UGA. That 2013 secondary was culturally as bad as the Quincy/Jasper backfield.

Are you privy to nonpublic information here? This just seems like a bold claim to make

No, that’s why I said “I think” and “probably”, rather than “I know” and “definitely”. It’s one of those things that there is no way to prove since none of us were actually there to see it first hand. It seemed to me he was a natural leader. It also seemed to me that the 2013 secondary was a dysfunctional group that thought they could get by on talent and were generally jackasses. Correlation does not equal causation, I know. But that doesn’t mean it should be dismissed either.

Just telling you what I have learned from multiple firsthand sources. I know he was considered a pain the ass while in Athens, but he has either turned a new leaf or was simply run off by Pruitt. Either way, he is gone.

Gotta ask Skep 1. Are you serious? 2.Did, they mention some sort of religious experience for dude? If it were not for Pruitt, being a miracle worker Trigga, Josh Harvey and Shaq would have effectively destroyed our defensive backfield for years. Matter of fact, hell i don’t want any more 5 star db’s. Just give me some 3 stars that can run really fast AND think.Pruitt will do the rest.

        • If you have”multiple first hand knowledge” sources, Sceptic, you are way too close to the Auburn program. You didn’t learn anything from your sources, you heard it. He wasn’t considered a pain in the ass, he WAS a pain in the ass. Why would you care to defend TM? Other than it fits your “UGA is dumb” shtick?

Isn’t one of the positives about the transfer rule to allow student-athletes the time to learn a new system before having to perform?

I for can’t wait for the return of the heart-string tugging stories of him being a heat seeking missile (in practice) whose lethality was limited only by the fragile tensile strength of one or more of his hamstrings
