Who needs quarterbacks?

I guess I wasn’t paying attention, but if you think Georgia is skating on thin ice this season with its quarterback situation, check out how Florida’s looks.

“Thin ice”? is that because of depth? Inexperience? Both? Ramsey, Park, Bauta. One of these guys has to be serviceable. I’m thinking they should be better ability-wise than Joe T, Joe Cox or maybe even Mason. If Schotty can teach the mental aspect they should at least be managers and not liabilities. I may be sipping the Kool-Aid, but I hope not. The pessimistic side of me says Florida will come out smelling like roses and we’ll struggle. Just because we expect different.

    • I have always thought Cox was a talented qb. He brought us back against the Hoggs in 2009 in DGD fashion. But something happened to him. Dunno what… maybe he slept with his arm in a sling on the train ride back to Athens?

I hope I didn’t sound like I was slighting those ex-QB’s. I support any Dawg that suits up and plays hard. I was just comparing talent. They are not all equal. No disrespect intended to our ex-players.

I think Cox playing behind Stafford and eventually replacing him was a detriment. He came out wanting to be a gunslinger and wing it around when that didn’t play to his strengths. He was incredibly accurate and his game wasn’t far off from Aaron Murray’s. He just forced throws too often and that carelessness led to too many picks. The 2009 Kentucky game was the most frustrated I’ve been with a Georgia QB since the QC days. Bobo needed to force his will on him a little more and get him to reign his game in and he could have been much better. Having the inconsistent running game of Caleb King and Ealey didn’t help either.

That was my thought, too. We seem to be sitting fine with QBs. I’m confident that Richt could coach up a monkey to play QB for us, so having talent like Ramsey, Bauta, and Park should be fine.

I agree, only the number of snaps makes us look anywhere near the level of Florida’s problems. We have had talented football minds teaching talented QBs in place, Florida has turned over the OC position every year with no QB showing the talent to take that team above average levels. That isn’t to say I wouldn’t like to have a QB with more game action going into 2015 but our offensive potential versus Florida is a mismatch.

I will feel a lot more snarky about Florida when they new coach is 0-4 against Georgia.

Shorter Alligator Army: lack of depth is good for a program because you can sell top recruits on the fact that you’re gonna be playing a looooooot of freshmen…

    • Hmmm… so is that how Urban did it?
Urban Meyer‘s arrival in Gainesville had a mighty impact. Meyer reignited the recruiting efforts at Florida, and winning a national title sent Florida to the top of the SEC and, perhaps more importantly, kept the Gators ahead of Florida State. Florida did not have much room to go, but the Gators overtook USC for the top spot in the recruiting rankings after winning the first of the SEC’s seven straight BCS trophies.

isn’t this revisionist history? In truth, didn’t Meyer win mostly with Zook’s guys in 2006? I’m not saying Irvin was Barry Switzer winning a Super Bowl with the Cowboys, but the Zooker, for all his faults, didn’t exactly leave the cupboard bare in Gainesville.

        • So which one is it??? Florida is a bunch of losers and can get to the promised land through recruiting and promising playing time… or Urban wasn’t that far away when he got to Florida and winning was how he set the table for his NC run?

Butch is a great recruiter for uT but I wonder if he can coach?

Oh God…one of the comments from the linked article:

“Tebow needs to hurry up and get married so they can start popping out mini-Timmy future UF QBs.”

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little…

I just hope that UF can spend more money on thicker material for their see -thru white pants. Just do it already.

Probably will redshirt this season, even though he doesn’t have to. It’ll give him time to learn the offense. Then come back in 2016, get injured early in the season – thereby getting a medical RS, and return again in 2017.
