Welcome to Freshman Day, kids!
The highest compliment is this:
What’s the biggest way to know that this plan is the next wave? Watson said Alabama just reached out. They want to host a “Freshman Day” of their own.
Score one for Smart. Alabama is already copying something in place at UGA. That’s progress.
Congratulations, Bluto! Just noticed you are over 30 million hits. I’ll go click some adds to celebrate.

If Fla is posting NRA Ted, it’s okay.
Boy do I smile thinking about the album version of that song. Greatest guitar slide EVAH!

Listening to that, he really needs to just retire already… unfortunately there are a number of bands that are hanging on too long – the Who, Tom Petty, etc…

Georgia’s joined the rest of the SEC in 21st century recruiting. I have no idea what’s going to happen when Kirby puts his team on the field this fall, but I’m quite pleased with the developments on the recruiting trail.

This is getting absolutely rediculous. When’s the K through 6 day?

That was my thought as well. Grown men and women drooling over 14-year olds is just creepy to me.

@Ginny: and scary.

Guys I get it but it’s football camp for 1 day at a nominal cost. My friend has a 5 year old taking golf lessons with a private golf coach. At least football camps are accessible to the average family.

Count me as all for young kids visiting college campuses, particularly Georgia kids visiting UGA. As Georgia kids, this is what they inherit from Georgian’s who have gone before them. Might sound corny or opportunistic to some folks, but I’m all for it. Would love to see thousands of Georgia kids come for G-day too.

I think you just hit on Kirby’s strategy to get 93k butts in the door. If Athens and immediate surrounding town’s schools don’t do it, you can send for the bused-in topping off crowd from Atlanta JHs.

Cojo, glad you’re back on the intertubes.

I went to the summer music camps hosted on campus every summer 10th-12th grade. Thousands of kids attend the middle school music camps too, which are obviously shorter and involve hotels, but the high school ones couped us up in Russell Hall for 2 weeks every summer, great times.

I find it a bit creepy as well but it’s better than hearing from instate kids that Garner never even contacted them.

Garner had become a cancer in the program – good riddance. Sorry for insulting cancer like that.

“The general consensus among these families and players has been that UGA waits too late to offer them.”
Another excellent tossing of the shade in Richt’s direction. Bear in mind that the main reason for late offers is because UGA didn’t generally offer more scholarships then they had available (like Bama does), as such they were often left standing at the alter by some of the big time recruits and had to scramble to fill out a class.
Overall this method benefits the kids because you’re not pulling scholarship offers from long standing commits on signing day because unbeknownst to them they were plan B from day 1. If plan A ends up signing and you don’t have any space left then the kid is screwed. These commits may have skipped out on OV’s to other schools at your request thus limiting their options to sign elsewhere. This method it’s at the expense of the program, but I can’t fault a guy for being honest, even if it hurt recruiting.
Also, I believe we offered Pappoe when he was an 8th grader.

So let’s offer a scholarship to every high school freshman so we don’t offend anyone. That’ll turn out well.

We just need to get off our buts and start a dialog with them earlier…an unfortunate reality considering Auburn and the like is throwing scholarships at them like money they throw at their ex coaches.

They also throw money at them like they do their buyouts as well.

If the UGA athletic dept really had its at together they’d sponsor a statewide 7 on 7 spring league, each region could have a 6 game season and Smart would have his own farm system….

Shit…why don’t we just do this right? Genetic grooming and in vitro fertilization for some dedicated UGA alums (pre-screened, of course, marriage optional).
