A license plate bleg

Friends, in these benighted times, every so often it becomes necessary to come to the aid of our less fortunate brethren.  This is one of those occasions.  You see, David Mowery is a proud Georgia Bulldog, a ’99 graduate of our fine institution, who has a problem.

He lives in Alabama.

No, that’s not the problem.  The problem is that he wants to display the pride he feels for his alma mater on the rear of his car in the form of a University of Georgia-themed license plate, a freedom we Georgians take for granted every day.  But according to the laws of David’s state, a UGA-branded license plate issued by the state of Alabama cannot come into existence without there first being a thousand presales of the plate.

David’s group has been working at it, but is short of that target.  So I’m putting out the call here for a few hundred good people in Alabama to step up and put your money where your school loyalty is.  It would be a crying shame for something like this never to see the light of day:

It took 3 attempts here in NC before Dawgs could proudly display their fanhood. #YouShallOvercome

You can buy a UA plate here in GA.

That’s enough reason to return the favor right there.

Can you issue a similar call for the state of Tennessee? The same exact thing is going on here. You can get Alabama, Auburn, or even (vomit) a Georgia Tech license plate, but not UGA. Here’s a link:

I lived there for about 12 years, it was ridiculous to not have that option, especially with all the UGA fans in Chatt alone. Hell, even State Penn has a tag in TN but Dawg fans couldn’t get it together. Hope you make it, but that progress against goal looks like quite a challenge. Just don’t understand it at all. Good luck.

I retired here in ’91..for a crime I didn’t commit….and altho’ it’s been so many years, plus the thirty-seven I spent away from Georgia in the service, I’ve signed up for two tags in the hope I’ll be joined by the many Dawgs here in Alabama…Larry Ware is in Montgomery and should rally around the UGA banner! I feels so good when you meet someone who asks, “Who’s your favorite team..Auburn or Alabama?” and you can say, with a degree of superiority: “Georgia, by damn!”.

I spoke with Larry yesterday about the tag . I asked him to get involved so hopefully he will. I also spoke with Mark Beard he was extremely excited and really want to help.

We can get them in Texas (along with eleventy-seven other plates), but they are $200 per year, in addition to the tax, so no thank you. I put a nice Dawg decal on the front and back. The techsters out here see those just fine. 🙂

But nice of you to pass the word. This could only help beautify Alabama.

C’mon Russ…$500 for 3 years discount. Dawg up and get one like I just did. It was tempting to put GTP on the tag, but used my business acronym instead to get the tax write-off for advertising 😉

Couldn’t get in in VA either. The local bulldog club tried, but not enough sales.

Only issue I have is they won’t transfer my wife’s Ma Dawg, Alabama tag without charging me double. I’ll have to wait until October when my tag renews to commit to save me double costs on 2 vehicle. Ma Dawg 2

If you order the UGA tag now you are paying for it up front. So when the tags are issued you will not be charged for it.

You are wrong sir. Chip Stewart with the university checked into it for me and gave me that answer after speaking with the licensing division in Alabama.

I am not sure you understand how this works The UGA tag is in the precommitment process. We have to pre sale 1000 plates by OCT 31 of this year. You are pre paying for the tag. Once we meet the thousand needed they will manufacturer the tags and send them to tag dept across the State where you will pick them up. You will have a voucher to show that you have already paid for the tag. So no you will not be charged twice for the plate. I am the one who started this tag campaign and worked with Chip and the State to get it approved Please like and visit our tag page . https://www.facebook.com/UGALicensePlateinBama. If you have more questions you can message me directly on the page I am the admin on the page.

Your wife has the wording MADAWG on her tag correct. When you order the tag their is a little check box you will select letting them know that you are wanting to add verbiage to the tag it does not cost any extra. You cannot add it while the tag is in pre commitment stage. Once we are successful and if you checked that box the State will email you a form allowing you to fill out what you want said on the tag before they are produced. If it is still available it will be yours.

Also this has nothing to do with your renewal date on your current tags. We have to pre sale 1000 tags before the state will manufacturer the plates and offer them to the public. Are deadline is Oct 31 2016 I doubt this tag will be ready for issuance by then. So please pre order your UGA tags now Go Dawgs!!!

Currently Florida law does not allow out of State University license plates. The Jacksonville Bulldog club is trying to get the legislation changed to allow a Dawg tag. They have a Facebook page dedicated to it called Bring UGA license plate to Florida. And they have also designed a tag. They are working with a State senator in Florida who’s is a UGA grad . Hopefully they can get something pushed early 2017.
