In case you missed it, Georgia Tech finished last season 3-9 and missed a bowl game for the first time in almost two decades. This post isn’t about the sense of entitlement that is embodied by the header.
It’s to note what the genius considers to be a big fix of the problem.
Johnson is trying to change the Jackets’ fortunes.
He fired special teams coach Ray Rychleski, and hired long-time college assistant Ron West to aid offensive line coach Mike Sewak.
The Jackets’ vaunted spread rushing attack, which finished in the top six nationally in each of Johnson’s first seven seasons, slipped dramatically last season. And Thomas often wound up running for his life in passing situations.
“I wanted to experiment with a special teams coach, and I like the old model better, so I wanted to get back to having two offensive line coaches,” Johnson explained. “I think it’s virtually impossible for one guy to coach five guys with what we do.”
Special team duties will be split among the entire coaching staff and coordinated by wingback coach Lamar Owens.
In other words, when it comes to special teams, he’s embracing his inner Mark Richt. Talk about your “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em” solutions…

Considering how common it is for The Genius to go for it on 4th down and how rare it is for his defense to make a 3rd down stop, then why waste time coaching the punt teams?

‘a chop block is an attempt by an offensive player to cut block (block at the thigh level or lower) a defensive player who is being blocked above the waist by another offensive player’.
Must be harder than it looks PJ.

It’s fairly common for a triple option offense to employ multiple OL coaches. Navy does it and the results look pretty good. I’m no Tech fan but this isn’t that big of a deal.

The Triple Option is great if your opponent 1. has never played you and 2. has only a short time to practice against it. There is a reason that Tech has lost a lot of bowl games under PJ. There is a reason that Tech has trouble in the Coastal Division but can upset teams from the other division. Tech’s biggest problem is if they get behind and have to pass they have not got a prayer. The whole team blocks and blocks some more. How they have managed to get some of the WR’s they have is amazing. They need a Cam Newton type QB but they can’t get one. The small QB’s take a pounding and when they throw it better be to a great receiver because the pass will be bad. Last year was a real dumpster fire for CPJ. He had a QB he thought could get it done but the wheels came off. The defeat of FSU probably saved his job.
