Here’s something you wouldn’t have heard ten years ago.
New Belgium Brewing has given the school $4.3 million towards the construction of an on-campus football stadium. Both New Belgium and Colorado State are located in Fort Collins, Colorado.
“We’re delighted to expand our partnership with New Belgium Brewing – and to honor the innovative, entrepreneurial spirit of our community by highlighting a tremendously successful, home-grown brand at the new stadium,” CSU president Tony Frank said in a statement.
As part of the gift, New Belgium gets north end zone hospitality naming rights.
A school “in partnership” with a brewery… what’s the world coming to?
And think of the naming possibilities at Georgia. Greg McGarity’s mouth is probably watering just thinking about it: “Marjorie, get Don Leebern on the phone for me, please.”
That’s great. Those guys make great beer.

Many in the Lips of Faith series are solid, Fat Tire was great when I 1st had it before they were shipping beer this far east, but many compete with it now. The craft beer market has come a long way.

yep. i am sure a lot of people had that first fat tire as an entry beer to bigger craft beers. I know I drank plenty of them muled from CO before it got distro’d.
They aren’t the most popular brewery in the country anymore, but they aint trash either.

“…..great beer”? You must have your taste buds lower in your anatomy than most.
New Belgium uses a fine name in brewing and location to lure you to the taste that turns out to be patooey. Fat Tire is barely palatable. Guarantee the brewing in Athens is superior to these guys.
A local signature brew from Athens or Atlanta would be great after a publicized blinded taste test and with a tasteful logo like “Sip our beer slowly and enjoy the full taste. You can get shitfaced on inferior beer later” or “Ole Panther Piss, just like the good ole days of drankin”.
Sweetwater anyone?

Lulz…the hot takes are strong.
New Belgium makes lots of great beer besides the sixers you can find at the gas station.

Sweetwater is my least favorite of the Georgia breweries. 420 is plain awful, in my opinion.

Agreed. Somebody mentioned New Belgium giving you a hangover…Sweetwater is the worst for that, at least for me.
For local breweries, there are many that I would take over Sweetwater….Three Taverns, Orpheus, Southern, Creature Comforts, Burnt Hickory….just off the top of my head.

Agreed, I would add Reformation to the list. Burnt Hickory and Orpheus are tops in my opinion. Terrapin has been a favorite too cautiously waiting on them, their Rye and Golden Ales were go to’s. I am afraid I will miss their small batch stuff with their changes.

I am particular about BOURBON, but if one I don’t like is offered, I’ll glady take a sip and like it just fine.

Get Terrapin to make an Amber that doesn’t taste like a Dairy Queen Blizzard flavor and then we will talk. Talk to the guys at SweetWater while you are at it.

They prefer to leave DNA evidence and dare you to use it against them. Learned it from TN who also doesn’t care about the wreckage they leave behind because they have been getting away with the same crap when Baylor was only known for being near where Janet Reno had a firing range.

Lee burn and his monopoly-enhanced distributor cohorts have done everything they can politically ($$$) to fight micro breweries in Georgia. The result being that Georgia has fewer breweries per capita than almost any other state.
If Sanford Stadium ever does start selling alcohol, I’m sure the beer selection will run the gamut from Bud to Miller Lite, with maybe a Lime-Rita thrown in for variety. Thanks but I’ll stick with sneaking bourbon in.

You’re probably right, but just imagine Terrapin or Creature Comfort on tap. And Bud Light?:

now that Terrapin is part of the MillerCoors family, you might be on to something… unless they move to SC.

Creature Comforts. Made in Athens. Trucked to Atlanta. Trucked back to Athens for distribution.
Sounds like a good use of diesel fuel.

Yes, Georgia (State of,) would find some way to f it up.

Georgia isn’t the only one where distributors have undermined the craft beer folks, and their grip is slipping. You should take a look at TN if you want to see repressive policies by beer distributors….folks there think Georgia is a mecca for choices.

Yuengling Brewery is very American but truly sounds too Chinese or Korean, yin yang and Trump may not approved of the name, LOL.

Actually Trump, like Yuengling (Jungling) is Germanic. Back in the old country it was probably something like Von Trump, Trumpflugel, Trumpberger, or Trumpelschmidt. I’m very sure he’d approve the beer as long as somebody slaps his name on the bottle.

I’m pretty sure John Oliver did an episode of his show on the origin of Trump’s last name. They found that it was originally, “Drumpf,” and man did he have fun with that. “Make Donald Drumpf again” was the slogan, I believe.
