Man, if you missed watching last night’s Rose Bowl, I feel sorry for you. It was simply as entertaining a game as I’ve seen all season. I can’t remember the last time I saw a game with bigger momentum changes. This’ll give you some idea of what I’m talking about.
But even that doesn’t totally do it justice. Three of those Penn State touchdowns scored on a total of three plays — not three series, three straight plays. Crazy stuff.
Southern Cal went from leading by thirteen points to trailing by fourteen, looked like it was reeling and then righted itself to run off seventeen unanswered points in the fourth quarter, including the game winning field goal as the clock expired.
Just wild. And I loved every minute of it.

Fantastic game. Not sure if I have seen a team improve as much from game 1 to this finale than USC. That young quarterback is fantastic. And by the way, that McSorely kid is pretty damn good too. Fabulous game, even if made “meaningless” by the sham playoff.

Great game and fun to watch. That first year head coach and a freshman QB coming off scholarship reductions a few years ago really has turned things around quickly.

Great game. Keith Jackson was sounding very feeble but still mentally sound. I loved it when he told Herbie and Fowler the problem with college football was too much exposure and too many manufactured games.

While it was good to see a competitive game score-wise, and momentum changes with drama on the last play is always great fun, I like my football with a little defense mixed in. 101 points scored, and that 7 consecutive TD run is closer to video football than quality, real football. Add that seemingly endless half time to Herbie’s non-stop blathering and I was ticked it ran over into the Sugar Bowl time slot. Thank God it didn’t go into OT, it may have never ended as we waited for someone to tackle someone.

It was an exciting finish, but 100+ point games aren’t what I want, or expect, from CFB. To me, 38-35 games is a true shootout and I don’t want to see a weekly dose of them. It is just an opinion, I am not saying your point of view isn’t allowed to be expressed, I am clearly in the minority on this. But I will say, imo, the rule changes that have allowed offenses to become this prolific have changed the game in a way that has damaged the product and I would like to see some balance restored.

A) I agree that if this is what I wanted to see I’d watch arena football and ;
B) I suggest that you develop my attitude towards being in the minority….at any given point in time and history the majority of people are wrong….only 43% of people in the colonies wanted to sever their ties with England but it worked out OK. I’m going old school and declaring Bama National Champs because even if they lose Monday they’ll have the exact same record as Clem’s son and they(Bama) will have lost to a good team on a neutral field while ” Auburn with a lake” lost to a mediocre Pitt team at home. Bama has already won the mythical National Championship.

Well, they will need to earn the title of National Champions only if they win. No format will ever insure we have identified “the best”. Bama may well be considered “the best” of 2016 regardless of winning or losing next Monday (and I can buy into that), but they would not be National Champs if they lose. Big difference, and many CFB fans get that confused in discussing the playoff options. Nothing will guarantee that “best” title, and the debates will rage most of the off season. If Bama wins, it will be one of the most universally acclaimed teams and will be then enter the “best of all time” arguments.

Have a seat son and let me tell you about a time, long, long ago, when we had a New Year’s Day filled with big bowl matchups that could be hugely entertaining and leave us the next day debating the entire off season who was really the best team in the country. Good times. Now, the Rose Bowl, while a great game last night, was regulated to “filler” programming.
Now git up and stay off my damn lawn!

Hey did you hear? The Rose Bowl is full of tradition. I mean just loaded..eventho for most of it’s existence only 2 conferences could play in it and by the way we’ve kinda screwed it with this new playoff we got here.
Wonder if the Big 10 Champs woulda scored on Clempson..? But Ohio St was deserving!!

What a surprise that the team that won their conference gave us the most entertaining game. Meanwhile, Ohio State, the team that everyone still adamantly insists ‘earned’ its way in by being one of the ‘best’ four teams in the country got embarrassed. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

The use of “meaningless” regarding CFB is much over used these days, this is just another example. Yesterday’s Rose Bowl was just exactly what it has been, except for the Texas/USC game, an exhibition game in a beautiful venue, between the Big10/PAC12. It still had a protected time slot near the dinner hour, and was not diminished to anyone other than the overly pompous officials affiliated with the bowl, and the ABC executives. They were not always the most important bowl, and probably won’t be this year. I admit their chances are reduced by the semi-final, and championship games but it was hardly meaningless relative to their past, imo

There has been quite a bit of “meaningless” cries throughout the bowl season with complaints directed at elevated status of the three playoff games. The Rose Bowl and ABC employees are among those whining.

I kept telling my friends this was a closely matched game and would be a humdinger. It proved to be a classic! I think the National Championship has all the signs of being a classic too. Clemson is on fire and Bama’s D is beyond outstanding.
