When asked how he felt about what took place at UGA this season, Rocker called it “a mutiny.” Head coach Mark Richt was fired at the end of a 9-3 season, and only two of his nine assistants were retained by new head coach Kirby Smart.
Rocker was one of them and outside linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer was the other.
“When you play a game like this and you have — I’ll call it — a bit of a mutiny; well, it IS mutiny — it’s important that you bring the kids together, and I thought it was important we did that,” Rocker said in a concourse beneath EverBank Field. “Those kids, we kept them together, and that’s what B-Mac (Bryan McClendon) did a great job with. Everybody focused and everybody stayed the course.”
Rocker declined to expound on exactly what he meant by a mutiny. But linebackers coach Mike Ekeler and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer are among the coaches who left and forewent their bowl bonuses had they stayed with the team.
Defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, an alleged source of friction for both of them supposedly and others, has since left to succeed Smart at Alabama.
… that must have been kind of an awkward moment. Which might explain the expression on Sherrer’s face.
Who farted?

All of these coaches are such vagabonds and are so used to the “business” that they don’t get as personally riled up about it as we do. Today’s worst enemy might be your next best buddy in coaching. Kind of like lawyering huh Senator?

The notion that Rocker and Pruitt did not get along was debunked a LONG time ago. The division was Brown, Mclendon, Schotty, and Ekeler on one side and Pruitt on the other. Generally speaking, Rocker and Sherrer sided with Pruitt. In terms of mutiny, it has also been covered that Pruitt challenged Richt to “do something” about the offensive staff that he felt had underperformed. Further, he pointed out the obvious to many around the program, which was the notion that Richt needed to be replaced.
Otherwise, there is not a particularly snarky or witty caption to write. Its 4 guys trying to procure a talented DL for their program.

I think there was talk about Rocker going to Alabama last off-season, wasn’t there?

Not from Rocker. 😉

Pruitt’s mutiny was he wanted the job himself. in addition to many other antics. Rocker was not on Team Pruitt. Not even close.

Is that verified? It’s what I’ve suspected was Pruitt’s endgame from day 1, but I haven’t heard evidence that supports it.
I’ve said before that Kirby played the long game and Pruitt tried to head him off at the pass.

as best to verified as I think anyone is going to get on the soap opera that was UGA football last year. Pruitt couldn’t keep his mouth shut, almost got his butt whooped multiple times by other staffers, blew his top in front of recruits regarding the worthless offensive staff a couple of times, showed up drunk to Richt’s house after a game when recruits were there looking to fight, tried to get Richt fired so he could get the gig.
I think Pruitt and Schotty were likely gone regardless of who was the head coach.

God I hope someone writes a tell-all book detailing all the coaching drama last season. If even a fraction of what you say is true it would be a best-seller.

one of the times Pruitt wanted to buck up, Thomas Brown almost whooped his butt, according to people. TB had to be pulled off by multiple people.
I would LOVE to read that tell all.

^^ that story happened at a practice with lots of recruits and families in attendance.

writers from a couple sites confirmed in comments on message board threads the basics of what went down. XYZ did happen, ABC did not happen sort of thing. I was as big a Richt fan as there was, but he had clearly lost control of things on the staff, so whether he was coach again in 2016, it was going to be a new OC and DC.

I’ve heard most of all that too, plus a dust up with Richt after GT in 2014, but it all just seems like rumors. Nothing from anyone I really trust.

Dear God, I would love to know the truth about what went down in 2015 (or even the 2014 Bowl period).
One day maybe we can beat it out of the Senator.

All I have to say is that the Georgia coaches look sharp. Pruitt looks like a used car salesman that also owns the title pawn shop.
