Just some random thoughts:
- From a college football news standpoint, this may be the slowest day of the year.
- Who sees more double coverage this year, Julio Jones or A.J. Green?
- I like David Hale’s comparison of Joe Cox to David Greene. I just don’t know if he’s right.
- I really can’t figure out which team will win the SEC West this year. Every time I think I’m about to settle on a school, I see a chink in the armor that makes me back off.
- Maybe it’s a reaction to all the sports metaphors littering Palin’s resignation speech, but I have this thought in my head I can’t finish: if the Republican Party were a college football program, how bad an offseason would we be saying it was having?
- To all the people who keep looking at Notre Dame and seeing an obvious double digit win total for the Irish this year, does it bother you even a little that this is pretty much the same team that lost four of its last five regular season games, including to Syracuse at home?
- Is there any school whose schedule is more of a one game season than Boise State’s?
- The more I think about it, the more I’m amazed by the quarterback situation at Tennessee. But South Carolina is a close second.
- I have no idea which school will win the Big East this year, which is okay, since I don’t really care, either.
- If you look at the schedules of the schools that are considered the true national title contenders right now, Southern Cal’s is the most credible of the bunch, and it’s not a close call.
- How many ACC teams would you characterize as having potent offenses?
- I think Pat Forde has confused the term “rivalry” with “spectacle”. Of course, that’s the kind of thing we’ve come to expect at the WWL.
- What’s the over/under on the number of snaps Tebow takes lining up under center this year? And will the average ypp be less or more compared to the average ypp out of the shotgun?
- Anybody who thinks this is the year that the Big XII becomes the preeminent conference in college football needs to take a closer look at the North. The division race will be fun to watch, but it’s a stretch to see anything close to a dominant team there.
Get The Picture 
Agree with you about the SEC West Senator, it looks to be even more fun than usual. The East looks like a two man race with one game that will decide it. I see three contenders in the West, and one more that may play a deciding role as a spoiler.
I have more difficulty accepting your USC observation. I get the point about the lousy OOC schedules for UF, Texas, and OU but have trouble with the talent mismatches USC faces within the PAC 10. It almost balances out to me.
The huge difference between the TN and SC quarterback situations is: Spurrier didn’t run the most talented QB he had off the team (allegedly to attract an unknown high school QB to come to UT since they would obviously see immediate starting time.) That is in the Top 5, all-time, dumb head coaching moves I have ever seen. Not only are you saying to the team and fans 2009 is being sacrificed for this reason, but also in 2010 we are doing so in order to start a true freshman in 2010. (This is not to say B.J. Coleman had All SEC talent, but the other two had already shown what they were lacking while Coleman not only had the best stats in Spring Drills, he was clearly the best on the field during the Orange and White Game. How could you not be willing to offer him a chance?)
Based on well Peyton Manning and Matt Stafford performed in their freshman year, TN fans could have a minimum of three straight disaster seasons before seeing any light at the end of the tunnel. That could be a hard sell from a guy that is hard to like. The headlines all say UT fans are behind this guy but privately I hear many expressing concern, even embarrassment. Junior doesn’t have the long leash Fulmer had because he isn’t one of them….and he makes it clear every time he opens his mouth that he “ain’t from ’round heah.”

As far as UT goes, I think that Crompton is their Blake Barnes. Unfortunately for them, Stephens is no Joe Cox, and more importantly, they don’t have a Stafford on campus.

-From a CFB standpoint, this is the slowest MONTH of the year.
-I think Jones will end up seeing more double-coverage due to the fact that I think we have better receivers.
-In the west, right now I’m going with ‘Bama. They have the best defense, and though they’re breaking in a new QB, Tide QB’s don’t have to pass for a ton of yards or anything–their RB’s are still there.
-If political parties could be sanctioned like in CFB, the GOP would, like, have no senate seats right now or something of the like.
-Southern Cal definitely has the most credible contender schedule–even considering their conference. They play every team in their conference: UF will miss out on ‘Bama and Ole Miss; and the Big XII will not be as tough as last year for UT and OU, besides each other.
-No ACC team has a potent offense. GT’s comes closest, maybe.
-I think the Big XII comes back to earth a little this year.

Why do you obsess over what Meyer is having his team practice? You’re always trying to imply that adding a wrinkle is somehow dishonest or underhanded. And if anything is new, it’s Meyer’s exclusive use of the shotgun formation so it’s not like trying to incorporate the triple option, Georgia-Tech style.
