The Opelika Auburn News is reporting that Auburn offensive coordinator/DVD salesman Tony Franklin has been fired.
That keening sound you think you hear in the background is actually Al Borges laughing maniacally.
UPDATE/PASSING THOUGHT: Does that make Franklin the first coach who’s been johnsoned? If so, dibs on the verb, peeps.

Thier Offense is Flat as the Proverbial Pancake. Good move on their part. Defense wins Championships but you can’t win unless you can put the ball in the endzone, Auburns Offense was a Train Wreck in slow motion.

If anyone had ever gotten up enough on Auburn to give up garbage points, I’m sure the Tony Franklin offense would have kicked in to overdrive.

To read the blogs T Tommy said they are keeping the Offense. This makes no sense at all. Say what you will but CTF knows the Spread. I said earlier this week that Hugh Nall would be back at OC, guess it may come to pass.

From what I’ve heard through radio interviews with the local Birmingham guys, it seems that Coach Franklin essentially told the team in a meeting Tuesday that it wasn’t his system, it was the players, and they needed to make the change. Tubbs obviously didn’t take too kindly and pulled the bigger stick card on him. This seemed like a trainwreck from day one, especially if you read the post over at Smart Football regarding the fact that Auburn wasn’t even running Franklin’s system. If Auburn was committed to Tony Franklin’s version of the spread, they should have allowed him to bring in his own position coaches that all believe in the spread as an offensive philosophy. That was a big part of what Bob Stoops did when he took over at Oklahoma and decided the spread was what he wanted to run. He brought in Mark Mangino and Mike Leach, guys that believed in the spread. I think it’s hard to run an offensive system, when only one of your coaches believes in it. Anyways, that’s my two cents. I don’t think Franklin was ever given a fair shake, and shouldn’t have been hired if Auburn wasn’t willing to completely adopt his philosophy.
