Many called; one was chosen.

More tales of open record requests:  here’s a look at the many inquiries the University of South Florida received in the wake of Jim Leavitt’s firing. (h/t The Wiz)

It sure would be interesting to see what turned up in Mark Richt’s mailbox for the open DC job.

I heard Donnan on the radio several weeks ago talking about the DC opening and he said, basically, that he can guarantee you that CMR’s phone was ringing off the hook. He said that he couldn’t believe the amount of interest in a job like that when he fired Kines and went searching for a DC. It would be very interesting to see all those names, for sure.

Well, there again–when it means you might get a big raise out of it if they call back, it wouldn’t be surprising if virtually every coach in the country called.

Harvard coach Tim Murphy throwing his hat in the ring is intriguing, at the very least. He’s been a shadow candidate on the fringes of some higher-profile searches over the last couple of years, but evidently is pretty content where he is. Can’t say as I’d blame him. I gotta imagine that base compensation doesn’t begin to tell the story for a Harvard coach who’s enjoyed the success he has.

It doesn’t surprise me that a number of current OCs and DCs put their names in for the job. It also doesn’t surprise me that a few high school head coaches applied (a triumph of hope over reality).

The one name that did surprise was Southern Miss. head coach Larry Fedora. His application certainly says something about what he thinks of his current job. He’s got some ‘splainin to do to lots of people.
