I’m going to go out on a limb and presume that the top two players on Chris Low’s list of the 25 best players in the SEC last season are Newton and Fairley… which means that he doesn’t have a single quarterback returning this season in his grouping.
Now that’s not completely out of line in the sense that only six players on Low’s list return for 2011, but still, it feels different. How many times in the last decade can you say there wasn’t an elite quarterback in this conference coming back for another year?
Maybe I’m just looking at things through red-and-black colored lenses, but … Aaron Murray is an elite QB. In terms of QB rating, passing ypg, and TD-INT ratio, he was right up there with Newton and Mallett. And he was a RS freshman. So he put up those numbers during his “I’m just gettin’ started” season.

That’s right, a RS FR season on par or better than Greene, Stafford or Zeier as well.

I’m with you – his stats as a freshman speak for themselves.

He ranked Justin Houston above aj, so it is hard to take anything he days seriously after that.

He ranked AJ lower due to his four game suspension.

Which still doesn’t make sense considering the list was “best players” not “most productive seasons”

That’s what I said.

I don’t disagree. I was just pointing out his reasoning from the article.

Just wait till Brantley plays his spring game. Pat Dooley will christen him (once again) an elite returning starter.

Might Muschamp text Brantley’s dad that his son is allz growd up?

Best SEC QB’s are LSU (Mettenberger), Ark, South Caro, and Georgia, in that order. Murray’s a kid who can’t beat winning teams, and 2/3rd’s of his stats cam against unranked teams.

So, what is the basis for your rating Mettenberger the best QB in the SEC. Was it his Spring game performance or something he did in Junior College?

Great post, “bo”.

Mett will probably win the starting job this year, and I believe he’ll be good, but that’s just silly.

Wow, that is really insightful analysis Blo, er I mean Bo.

Oh, so “Bo” is a member of the Mettenberger family. OK, his silliness is starting to make more sense now.

Bo…get off the bus.
If you can’t see what a blessing Aaron Murray is to the bulldog nation you simply haven’t been watching collegiate football for the last 25 years.

Uh… You know uga said Murray won the qb spot over mett before he got kicked off the team right?

Is it bad that anytime I see a post on here about SEC QBs, I automatically click to the comments to see how long it took before our Murray basher shows up to remind us that Murray had a losing record as a starter, can’t beat winning teams and accumulated most of his stats against lesser opponents.
It’s really pretty pathetic. At this point, the guy is almost assuredly a Mettenberger family member who just can’t let it go that Mettenberger got kicked off the team and for some reason blames Murray for it.

I don’t agree with Bo but……everything he says about the statistics is true.

And are you one of those people who believe stats are everything? God knows UGA won the turnover battle last year in a big way, but who would not argue that the few turnovers we lost at crucial times outweighed the many positive give aways we got. If you are measuring AM by those weak stats and not judging for yourself his talent and poise, then you sir should be a Paul “Fat Mackerrel” Johnson fan. We had 689 yds rushing, but lost by 20, NERD.

I don’t believe sh!t. I just observe and report the truth. If you don’t like it jump on Bo.

P.S. 6-7 remains 6-7 whatever the explanation.

Bullshit NERD. There are a hunderd scenerios where u go 6-7, and only 53 fall on your QB.

While your argument is filled with logic, Bo and Mayor of Dawgtown are correct. Yes, AM does not play D. However, he does lead the offense. This season will tell a ton about AM.

Don’t lump me in with Bo. I like Murray. My point was, and still is, that while everyone was beating up Bo for what he said about AM, nevertheless everything he said was correct. AM did get most of his stats against losing teams, didn’t beat a single team with a winning record and had his worst games against the better teams. I agree that AM doesn’t block or tackle and that the poor record was probably as a result of other factors (offensive line, etc.) but Bo makes a legitimate point. And SD, just because somebody says something you don’t agree with doesn’t mean he/she is a nerd. All you know is that you’re pissed off and you really don’t know who to be mad at so you just strike out aimlessly. Better to reserve your displeasure for the Gators, Techsticles and our other true enemies.

I believe AM is an unusually gifted QB. My worry is that we pigeonhole him into being a prototype dropback QB, and never utilize his overall talent. He can pass, scramble, rollout, run, improvise, etc. I really hope CMR & CMB break with their old habits and find ways to use AM’s talent. It would be a shame if all we’re doing is grooming AM for the NFL.

This “Gator-Hater” is sorely afraid that Brantley & Weiss will combine to make Brantley the Elite QB. However, Murray will be there too, particularly If the OL comes through & plays up to its capabilities.

You know what, I am tired of all of us die hard DAWG men sounding like weak ass pUSSIES when it comes to the Gay Tards. Ok, they have owned us for a while. Although, when I went to UGA, 88-90, we used to whip that ass, even if it meant spankin’ Emmitt. Who gives a yellow jacket yellow piss about Charlie wuss, or whatever the hell his name is. We got that ass this year, PHUCK THEM!

Murray did pretty well for a red shirt freshman. He needs to reel in his emotions in big games. In other words, mature. Nineteen year olds do not always mature at the rate we would like, but he is a hard worker and diligent in his study of the game so I look for an overall improvement in his play. My friend has gone golfing out of town so I am going to stock her cd changer with my stuff. Goodbye Faith Hill and Kenny G, hello Doors and Allmans. What the hell, Pink Floyd too, and some cold Miller by the pool. I am purposly avoiding the NCAAs, if the Dawgs suck I am not letting that wreck a weekend to myself!

I didn’t give up against the Gators. I picked USC e last year & the DAWGS this year. I was also in the stands for every win that Dooley had against the Gators. I think Murray is the better QB; But,I still think Brantley will flourish under the new Gator pro style passing attack that will be very similar to what the Dawgs use. Vitroil is very unnecessary in any case. Have a nice weekend.
