I can’t say what the new S & C program has done for other players, but Geathers looks impressive.
If his game has stepped up as much as his physique, I’m looking forward to what comes of the nose tackle position this year.

UPDATE: I’m not the only one.

UPDATE #2: And check out the picture of him standing next to Tyson here. Dang, that’s a big man.
Wow, that is impressive, he looked like the Pillsbury Dough boy last year

Damn, that is impressive. How cool would it be to have a ferocious Jenkins, and a newly resurgent FORCE Kwame.

is there going to be a “before” photo?

Did they stop feeding him?!
Seriously, if I had a football in my hand and he asked for it, I’d hand it to him. Not messing with that dude.

Dang, I’m old. Cosby has a great routine about playing football at Temple and giving the ball to a big dude on the other team because it seemed like the sensible thing to do. At least, it seemed like a great routing when I was 7 listening on the family station wagon’s 8-track player.

My dad had all of those old Cosby albums on vinyl and he’d play them for my sister and I growing up! I remember that routine, but my favorite was the one where he played the football player doing a razor commercial. Classic.

His routine about what if all historic events were started like football games, with a coin toss. Captain Custer this is Captain Sitting Bull, Captain Custer your the visitor so you call the toss. Classic stuff.

Now we just need a “streak of mean” in those guys, have to learn to get off the field in 3 plays and back to the Watergirl. Saw an interview with Dooley and one of the UT players last night talking about being more physical. The UT player said they had to be more like Bama, Auburn, and Florida. No fear of our defense anymore.

Auburn – the one year fart in a bottle. They’re program has made zero progress and the next 5 years will demonstrate that.

Wouldn’t you trade 5 mediocre years for 1 national championship? I sure as hell would. We’re already getting our mediocrity out of the way. When do we get our BCSNC?

Of course not. Or was that a rhetorical question?

If Kwame was any bigger, he could affect the tides. If the addition of John Jenkins has spurred Kwame to get into shape and scrap hard for playing time, seems like our defense can only benefit. Good for him, and good for UGA.

Shouldn’t be surprised, this is a contract year for Kwame (remember he redshirted 09).
We should expect him to be a beast this season and then go pro.

Huh?

As in he will transfer if he doesn’t do well? Not sure I’m following your “contract year” analogy.

Last chance to show the NFL what he can do.

Well, not last chance, but it’s his last chance to really make a lot of noise if he wants to leave early, which is what I think Normaltown Mike is suggesting.

Precisely. He can pro after ’11, so he might turn it up a bit.
Geathers boys (like Clemons boys) have been known to take it easy until the real money is up for grabs.

It’s going to take more than 1 season splitting time at nose for Kwame to even crack the late rounds of the NFL Draft.

I worry that he’s too tall to get good leverage at the nose. But dang he’s done some work.

Both Mount Cody and Big Bad John are 6’4″
It would surprise me if 2 extra inches are that much of a problem in this situation.

Too tall my ass.

How big was that dude that played for UT in the 90s? I feel like he was 6′ 8″ and played DT. Damn, why can’t I remember his name.

Though everyone is excited about how good Geathers looks and attributes it to the offseason workout changes plus some major attitude upgrade by Geathers, don’t the 2 images of pillsbury dough Tyson negate some of the enthusiasm there?
Who’s buying in and who isn’t is the real question.

I kinda think that’s just what you’re gonna look like when you’re not quite 6’2” and you weigh 306. He’s got a bit of a gut, but everything else looks solid and well muscled. Some guys just get guts like that, regardless of how hard they work.

Unfortunately S&C is mostly voluntary and some are more gung-ho than others. Look at Arron’s pics on Twitter he is ripped now but you know he is a self starter, others not so much.

Big guts and big butts on linemen are not a bad thing. They keep the center of gravity lower and make said lineman harder to move. Remember that a tackle’s job isn’t rushing the passer it’s stopping up the middle. Look at the guts on some NFL linemen. If the core strength is there and the thighs have been built up the big gut doesn’t matter. UGA doesn’t need any body builders out there, they need guys that can get that weight down low and mangle big ol’ O linemen.

And before anyone says “all that weight is unhealthy”, well so is football at the highest levels. That’s why NFL linemen have a lifespan that is twenty years shorter than the average male. I remember when steroids were legal and an O lineman for the Bucs admitted taking them. A reporter said “Do you realize what steroids do to your body?” The player said”look, I run into three hundred pound men at full speed almost every day in practice and in games. If I was concerned about my body I would look for a different kind of work.”

Tyson’s posture is affecting that picture as well. He’s slouching and relaxing, so sure, his gut is going to look a little bigger. He doesn’t have to look like Wolverine, anyway.

Pictures are nice. What I want to see is a toughness and mean streak. We can line everyone up for a cute team photo, but it means nothing if they deliver a third (some would say 4th) straight sub par season. And why has it taken CMR so long to make nutrition and S&C changes? Too little too late? This is a “contract year” for CMR.

Several things on this. First it would be great for Jenkins to come in and have to earn the spot after Geathers has a great spring instead of it being handed to him because there are no other options. Second I like Geathers attitude that he is really concentrating on the nickel formation to try to be the man in that situation if he is unable to beat out Jenkins as the starter. Third would be that if Geathers and Jenkins both show they can dominate then it really gives Grantham the option on short yardage downs to split Geathers out to end, Jenkins in the middle and last years nose, Tyson, at the other end. That way Georgia could stay in its base 3-4 even in obvious run situations as they would have the size up front (1/2 ton worth from 3 guys). Just some ideas if Geathers is truly ready to play this season.
