More and more, it’s looking like a thirteen-team SEC will be a complete cock-up.

    One wonders how the TAM’s West opponents will be selected? Which two teams will be left out? No matter which two teams are left out, there will be some screeching.

    damn. i’ve been reading this blog since 2006, and that’s the strongest language in the smallest space i’ve ever seen you use. don’t get me wrong–i revel in it, especially in reference to this slow-motion train-wreck the sec is putting itself through with ill-conceived expansion projects.

    This is starting to remind me of the Sea Island rebuild. The SEC is trying to fix a non-existent problem and they will end up with something worse than what they had before, with the side effect of pissing off their customers (the fans).

      Noonan, the SEC office and the AD’s (even our own) do not give a damn about the fans. They are to busy keeping an eye on ESPN’s checkbook. The conference has given out records setting payments to its member each of the past 3 years (and will again do so this years), yet each conference member has raised the ticket price to their fans over that same time period. Being fan friendly is a foreign concept in this race for greed.

    This is a freaking trainwreck. I never thought I’d say this after the whole Virginia-legislature-demands–that-the-ACC-take-Virginia-Tech debacle, but we’re making the ACC look like the conference with better leadership and foresight right now. I guess Texas A&M brought too many TV sets to tell them to go fly a kite, but it would have been nice to have a freaking plan in place to avoid this garbage.

      And, frankly, if they mess with the deep south’s oldest rivalry between Auburn and Georgia, it’s going to make me even more angry about it than I already am.

        Preserving Auburn v. Georgia is one reason why Missouri will go into The SEC East after an epic frat rush vote chad-hanger in which The SEC accepts Missouri’s bid as soon as Slive’s team of lawyers assures him it’s litigation-proof and Kenny Starr signs off on it. Alabama’s vote for Missouri is conditioned on Nick keeping intact his annual win over Derek and Barbara. Slive’s wizardry is enlarged big-time as he schools the network execs on the next contract modification. Everything is beautiful, old rivalries are preserved, new ones are created and that one year cock-up of a 13 team schedule is nothing more than a distant memory of sand flowing through the hourglass of time as The SEC continues onward in its march toward immortality

    I don’t like it, BUT I don’t see it as a problem, like they are going to go with only 1 or 2 losses in conference.

      I have very little knowledge about what they’ll have next year, but I do think that the 2011 Aggies would be able to put up approximately the same record that we have if they played our schedule this year. They wouldn’t beat Alabama or LSU… but then again not many teams would. Depending on who they draw and if those teams have managed to improve on this season’s lackluster showings as a conference, they might just do OK for themselves.

    HA! You all snorted, mocked, ridiculed or worse…ignored. But my idea Wednesday of selecting 4 automatic/rotating cupcakes (3 SEC plus one at large like Memphis or GT) and going with 5 team divisions makes a hell of a lot more sense now, don’t it!!

    Right now, I don’t think Mizzou is coming to the SEC. I would bet WVU is here in time for the 12 season and all this handwringing will be OBE.

    TA&M’s 2012 schedule: Ole Miss, Miss State, Auburn, Arkansas, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, UT, and South Carolina. They finish 6-2 in the SEC and claim the Extreme West Championship plus win all their OOC games to finish the regular season 10-2. They then play in the WeedEater Bowl and finish the season 11-2 and in the Top 10. This is why they moved.

    It’s a bad situation. Period. So we suck it up and do the best we can. What if TAMU played the teams that finish 1, 2, 5, and 6 from each side this year. Play 1 and 6 from the West and 2 and 5 from the East on the road and 1 and 6 from the East and 2 and 5 from the West at home (or some other combination). Each current East and West team would keep annual rival from the other division and drop either the road or away game with the other division though the 3 and 4 team from each side would have to add a game versus the other 3 or 4 from the other side. Or something along those lines. I’m fighting insomnia and I haven’t the will or desire to map it all out tonight but it can be done. Some schedules are going to be tougher than others…welcome to the SEC.
