Musical palate cleanser, Christmas Eve edition

Yesterday’s MPC was light-hearted.  Today’s is… not so light-hearted.

Somebody once asked if Shane MacGowan has ever performed this song sober.

The part where he and Kirsty MacColl break into “The boys of the NYPD choir…” is just sublime.

And, yeah, that is Matt Dillon.

You have great taste in music. But, I don’t think Shane has ever performed sober.

“Can’t make it out alone, I’ve built my dreams around you”

Doesn’t get much better. I’ve seen em 4 times and even in Shane’s worst moments they are still magic all together.

    Merry Christmas everybody.

Being so drunk that you get kicked out of The Pogues is roughly equivalent to being so drunk that you get kicked out of The Replacements. I know I’ve tried, but I don’t think I’ve quite achieved that level.

This is honestly the only Christmas song I like and the only one I’ll play at home this time of year. I never get tired of that line “the bells were ringing on Christmas Day…” and then the flute kicks in. Timeless, fantastic song.

Also, as an additional insight into my particular brand of high functioning sociopathy, my favorite Christmas movies are “Die Hard”, “Lethal Weapon” and “The Proposition”.
