If you haven’t seen this yet, Loran Smith’s reminiscence of David Pollack’s first big play is worth a look.
You know the play I’m talking about:
Pollack’s closing speed on that play is incredible, but my favorite part is Corey Jenkins having no idea where the ball was at.
“How about that David Pol-lock interception in the end zone?”
What a gaff.
How many Pollocks does it take to whip an Offensive tackle, simultaneously block and intercept a pass in the end zone, and stick a shiv in the heart of Cock-nation?

I was at that game and I still don’t believe it. I’ve never seen anything like it before or since.

It was rainy and nasty, if I remember correctly. Might have been a lightning delay, too. Wasn’t that the one where USC’s RB (Pinner?) fumbled down around the goalline to seal the win for us?

I was there, too, and there was a delay. It was the only time I’ve ever been to a game when they allowed fans to go back to their cars. The crappy thing was, we were so far away from our parking spot (we sat in the end zone seats above the same end zone where the Pollack play happened) that we decided just to stay in the stadium instead of going to grab a couple more beers.
That was the game where the USC RB fumbled at the end, it was also the last time Carolina was coming off of a two game streak against us.
I remember reading that Richt told the team that Carolina had never
bea.ten UGA 3 in a row, and not to let it happen then. Hopefully that speech works again this year
beaten Georgia 3 times in a row, and he didn’t want it to happen then.

“Cat-like refexes” was one sports announcer’s words. Also, not only the ref, but Pollack knew instantly that it was a td.

What is also amazing is that the officials got the call right.

David Pollack and David Greene were friends before college?

How in the heezy was that Pollack’s 3rd career interception? That stat had to be wrong. Maybe Jill was doing research for the production truck, too.

If I remember correctly Corey Jenkins turned to the ref to argue that it couldn’t have been a fumble since his arm was going forward and the ref told him he was right but that David had never let the ball hit the ground so it didn’t matter.

Who was that teenager being interviewed at the end?
Good grief, the Dawg nation has aged that man.

Reggie BaLLLL told Corey Jenkins after the game, “It’s just a game, dawg. Georgia’s Georgia.”

Now, years later, one of my favorite new aspects of that video is look how long it takes for the band to start playing after the TD. It’s like EVERYBODY is unsure and in shock – be it good or bad shock – except for the guys on the defense. I know we were really confused and really happy and really afraid the replay wouldn’t let it stand.
And Irwin, that was Pollack’s 2nd year playing so I could see the possibility of 2 previous int’s, although I couldn’t sit here and call them out to you.

One of the greatest plays in the history of college football–not just Georgia football.

“but my favorite part is Corey Jenkins having no idea where the ball was at.” If only he’d had the cognizance to look behind the preposition… 🙂
