From Abraham Baldwin to Herschel Walker

If I’m doing the math correctly, we can expect the University to erect a statue honoring its greatest football player around 2208.

It sounds like Greg McGarity is worried about statue creep.

Building statues for great players means an holistic big picture view. Changing the number of teams in the SEC means fly by the seat of your pants.

    • I’m pretty sure that if ESPN were paying for statues, McGarity would be more broadminded about the possibilities.

        good point.

though I doubt that McGarity would be out of pocket for these statues. I am sure that fundraising for a Walker statue on campus is probably the easiest fundraising you can do.

Statues of living people are tacky. Who are we, ‘Bama?

I accidentally read some of the comments on that AJC article. I’m glad those types don’t come outside or the world would be a much meaner, scarier place.

Why not! If SOD can make a statue to the fastest orange dog in Tenn and parade it around the athletic field for all to see, we should make one to the fastest Dawg in Georgia who played for his dad. It should be modeled with Herschel’s arm around Sod’s dad’s shoulder in the garden and dubbed Son of Georgia.

Sinkwich, Trippi, and many others were truly great. Nut there is no doubt Herschel is the greatest Dawg ever. No harm in making his statue first.
