Just your basic Cocktail Party win

Now this is more like it.

When talking with Georgia players it’s easy to tell which game meant the most for the Bulldogs. Each one talked about how important the Florida win was for the season and the program. It not only gave Georgia’s seniors a win over the Gators, but it helped put the Dawgs in cruise control on the way to the SEC championship game. Jones, who grew up a fan of both Florida and Georgia (very strange, I know) said he took it upon himself to make sure the Bulldogs came out with the win. He did his part with four sacks, including one that basically ended the game. Robinson said it was “the greatest feeling” he’s had since his arrival. That win coupled with South Carolina’s loss to Arkansas propelled Georgia into the SEC championship game.

Weather-free, travel-free talk.  Nothing more than “it was a big game, we needed to win it and we did.”  And you know what?  That’s all it should be.

Looking back, the Celebration was a great moment, but in terms of changing the direction of the series, it was as much a mirage as Donnan’s win in ’97 turned out to be.  Hopefully last year’s win has more meat on its bones.  Things aren’t going to change for good in Jax until Georgia’s players and coaches honestly believe they have.

  1. Win again this year and it is no longer about the drought but about the 4-5 in the last 9 and 2 in a row. That is pretty even as opposed to the 20+ year run that UF fans love to dwell on. Plus the only “streak” would be in UGA’s favor.

I don’t know how good or bad Florida will be this year, but I do know that our team doesn’t care. They’re going to be hungry for another win and, barring no more suspensions or injuries, will be at full strength by the time we roll into Jax.

I am never optimistic about the Florida game, but this is the closest I have ever been since the early 2000s.

I look at 2012 in Jacksonville like this: if UGA wins, then the 2010 Florida recruiting class, the supposed “greatest recruiting class in the history of college football”, will have gone 1-2 over three years against UGA, and then any of those guys who are worth a damn will leave. And it will be so funny.

They will have come on campus thinking they were literally the greatest class to ever grace the Swamp with their presence, having been arrogant little pricks to all the upperclassmen… you know, the ones who actually won championships….. and they will leave having presided over the worst three years of Florida football since the eighties.

Personally, I have more confidence this year about the UF game than about Carolina and AU. Our guys have shown the last 2 seasons they aren’t intimidated anymore and the cycle has cycled again.

Really, AU? After losing their top RB and their OC, they have a pretty tall mountain to climb. We can talk Carolina, but AU is on the ropes once again

This year’s WLOCP game is pivotal for the Dawgs. Win it and we are 3-3 for the last 6 and on a 2 game winning streak. Absolute parity has been re-established and UGA’s return to supremacy in the series reignited. Lose and…..

The next few years will tell obviously but something just felt different about the game in 2011. Not that we were going to go 17-3 against the gators in the coming 20 years but that parity had at last returned. It almost seemed a fresh group of bulldogs beat the ghosts of cocktail parties past as much as they beat the gators. they allowed two cheapie touchdowns but it seemed everyone on the Georgia sideline starting with jarvis went: “enough, not this year. hold on because we’re coming back and we’re finishing what we almost pulled off last year”. Ideally i would love to see a great uga team beat a good uf team in a classic. I want UGA to see Jax as THEIR gateway to Atlanta. Not a place where dreams go to die.

The years we beat Florida and for the most part everyone else, WE HAD A GOOD DEFENSE. Last year we did, this year we will, and with CTG we will as long as he stays. I think the script has already flipped, but I can’t believe I just said that.

When the O line gets much better is when I’ll drink the cool aid. When our RBs don’t gain much in practice and the air game beats the D, I don’t quite get the same feeling That was present last year, even with all the critics chirping away. All the personnel are present for all facets of our game, but the running game has to be tantamount for me to believe we won’t have gobs of trouble with FU, SC and possibly Tenn. Kentucky was no accident last year and flew under everyone’s radar.

I’ll let you know after Fall practice and the Mizzou game.
