Evidently Corch was leading a bunch of pansies in Gainesville.
“I would rather have neutral sites,” Meyer said. “I’m not sure you can, on a crisp December day here in Columbus, have a Southern team come up to play. The Southern teams I coached [at Florida], I know it would be a problem.”
That’s what happens when you haven’t played a game outside the borders of the Confederacy in over twenty years, I guess.
A 6-7 hr drive for UGA fans/Gator fans drive an hour..not a neutral site in my mind. I think you are on to something. Let’s get them game up to Columbus that would truly be a “neutral” site. Lol

Why is legth of the drive, not number of fans in the stadium, the barometer for homefield advantage?

I agree. Has the extra drive time for UGA fans made us lose the party? Is the football team thrown off by their concern for the hardship on the fanbase? The Cocktail Party disadvantage comes from teams that go down there hoping to win, instead of expecting to win. UGA regularly beat Florida teams with higher rankings and deeper/more talented rosters in the 70s and 80s because they didnt pay any attention to rankings, who had the longest bus ride, or other hype; they just went down there expecting to kick Florida’s ass.

There is more to the State of Georgia than I-285. Go attend a Golden Isles Bulldog meeting, or try and talk a little bit of pigskin down in Valdosta… plenty of UGA fans below the gnat line

My heart is warmed by Corch’s gratitude to the place that made him famous. The man has no capacity for shame.
On a related issue, if those grizzled Big 10 players are so tough, please explain their warm weather bowl record.

It’s 95 degrees with 90% humidity at those bowl games! It’s not fair! The Southern teams have an advantage!

Playing a national championship game in Glendale, Arizona is outside the confederacy?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t the citizens of the Arizona Territory secede from the Union?

During the Civil War, Arizona was a territory claimed by the Confederate States of America. What is now Glendale was in that territory.

There also was a skirmish at Pinnacle Peak, if I remember correctly.

Corch will do as well at OSU as Spurrier did with the ‘Skins. He will then go on to coach Akron or SW Missouri St for a number of years in the full glory of his mediocrity.

I’m not so sure. I’m no fan of Corch, but I spect he’ll run through that conference like a knife through hot buttah. The fact that he’s already russelling feathers on the recruiting rules of the gentleman’s club is an early indication that he’s bringing a lotta vinegar to the Big Integer.

Yeah. A regular James Franklin of the Big 10.

Get the game in Columbus, it is just 45 min from home. So so great.

And if the weather doesn’t serve as an equalizer, maybe the ankle deep grass will get em.
(I know Ohio Stadium has turf but play along anyway. Notre Dame doesn’t mow after Labor Day.)

Aren’t the mighty Buckeyes 0 and 14 against the SEC? I seem to recall THE Ohio Sate lost in warm weather against UGA in the then Citrus Bowl game in 1992.

Outside the Confederacy? How about outside the State of Florida–FU rarely ventures outside those borders and hates when the Gators have to.

Meyer is pulling his usual bluff. How in hell does he know his players wouldn’t play well in cold climates when most NFL teams he claims to send players to are in chilly climes? His bs continues on beyond the SEC. Besides being a social and family idiot, he wants to confer it to his team.
He has succeeded in making more Big Blue fans than are in the Michigan Alumni Foundation. And I’m one of them.

I think moving the cocktail party to Columbus is a good idea. It is only about an hour from here and Southwest Ga. needs the money. The stadium will need a hell of a remodeling job though. It’s too small. That’s why they made the AU game a home and home. Wait a minute, you are talking about Columbus Ga. right? Ya’ll aren’t trying to fool me again are you? Like when they said the Russians had invaded Georgia and I loaded all my shit and stayed awake three days waiting for the slimy bastards. Stay awake three days and you see Russians everywhere!

Yeah. The Republicans stopped their panicky rumors when Palin said she had it taken care of by her proximity. And the Russians didn’t invade because she was glowering at them.
