Some bloggers log into a roundtable discussion…

Put a bunch of college football bloggers together to discuss college football conference realignment and you get a general consensus that a bunch of assholes are out there threatening to screw up the sport we love.  Go figure.

Seriously, Allen Kinney of The Crystal Ball Run put together a motley crew and did a heckuva job directing traffic.  (There’s a bit of technical difficulty at the beginning of the clip, but it disappears.)

It’s a good discussion, but I was somewhat surprised to find that the pessimism I feel about what’s going on is so broadly shared.  And this is among a group that’s passionate enough about college football to blog!  Were I one of the folks running the sport, I’d be more than a little dismayed by that.

Anyway, give it a listen and let me know your thoughts.

I think the disconnect here, Senator, is that most fans AREN’T passionate enough about college football to blog, and the leadership knows that. What the presidents, commissioners, and ADs care about is how many eyes are on the TV, and your eyes are no more valuable to them than those of your average ‘mythical Montanan’. Frankly, I think they’re correct in their assumption that the changes they’re discussing will not have a negative impact on viewership.

and “Were I one of the folks running the sport, I’d be more than a little dismayed by that.”

The biggest problem is that they are NOT dismayed.

They all think they can herd people who will then do what they thought was bets for us, like mini Mayor Bloombergs!

Rumor is that Buzz Bissinger is doing consulting work monitoring the bloggers for the folks running the sport
