Quite frankly, Al Groh thinks Paul Johnson sucks. This is not an exaggeration.
Groh, the head coach at Virginia from 2001-09, served as Georgia Tech defensive coordinator until he was relieved of his duties Oct. 8.
Head coach Paul Johnson announced the move two days after a 47-31 loss to Clemson. That was the third straight loss for the Yellow Jackets, who had given up more than 40 points in all three games.
Johnson said he had based his decision on results but it appears there were other issues.
“Just to say it briefly, this circumstance here was the most unprofessional, divisive and negative environment in which I’ve ever been,” Groh said. “To say more would be unprofessional of myself.
“It was just a bad cultural match.”
I’d love to hear a description of the two cultures in question. Is this merely a case of a staff not being big enough to accommodate two head coaches, or is there something really scummy we’d like to know more about?
I wonder if Bradley and Schultz are on the mother.

UPDATE: I think I’m going to have to award Johnson with a touché here.
“I’m sorry to hear that Al feels that way,” Johnson said in a statement. “I’m surprised he would stay here for 2 1/2 years if he felt like that it was that bad.”

Paul Johnson has lots of class, just like most Tech people. Unfortunately for all of them, it’s just low.

I am friends with someone who worked as an SID at a school where Johnson coached. He says Johnson is a complete and total ass who is mean to everyone around him, including the players, coaches, faculty and staff. In his words, Johnson is simply not a nice person. Period.

Bradley or Schultz will either ignore this or write a prize winning piece on how this is sour grapes from a DC whose better days are behind him. Wow, just look at how great Tech’s D was vs FSU and USC. Man, they peaked at the end and could have beaten anybody in the country by Dec. 31 (sarcasm intended).

It is interesting to me that many of the college coaches that did not play college ball themselves seem to enormous assholes who wear their insecurity like a badge of honor.
Think about it, Charlie Weis, George O’Leary (ignore his resume entry about being a Notre Dame QB and a Penn State Linebacker) and Paul Johnson, none played college ball, none have any hesitation telling you how much of a genius they are, and none have a shred of manners, couth, or tact.

“Bad cultural fit” is code for “I couldn’t get a defense ready to face D-1 offenses when I had to scrimmage against a high school offense that no one else runs, and neither will the next guy either.”
