Could Georgia be on the verge of real offensive line depth?

The most interesting thing Richt said today had to do with the offensive tackles.

If this is really the case, wow.  There are suddenly a lot of moving parts for Will Friend to play with.

I’m not sure I remember what a Dawg offensive line with honest, two-deep depth looks like.  But I sure wouldn’t mind having my memory refreshed this season.

    Wait… I thought Ward was only a 3 star?

It’s pretty impressive. The dude was only 250 on a 6’7″ frame 2 yrs ago. We have a great S&C program.

  2. Ward finally pushing for a spot is nice, although him leapfrogging Dantzler not so much for the big fella from Dalton. I’m not surprised by the Theus to LT talk, and to be honest, felt that was where he’d end up this year after the initial year on the less exposed right side as a freshman.

What is this Offensive Line depth of which they speak? I’m only 65 years old and don’t recall.

Mark Richt has clearly lost control of not recruiting offensive linemen.

John Atkins played offensive line (T/TE) in high school, so he could be an option there as well if it came down to it.

Free Kolton Houston! Imagine the possibilities of “depth” if he were ever released from Emmert’s bonds.

This falls firmly in the “I’ll believe it when I see it” category for me. Hell, I may not even believe it then.

With Ward at RT, here’s what I’m coming up with, from L-R: Theus, Gates, Andrews, Burnette, Ward. Beard and Lee would supply some quality depth. Others, too, perhaps.

Ward’s presence on the sidelines still stands-out in my mind from the Outback Bowl, he (obviously) wasn’t playing, but he definitely passed the eye test from where I was sitting. Big kid with a good frame. Glad to hear he’s coming on.

I am very happy we have depth, I now hope at least two of them, side-by-side, can run block someone on 3rd and short. It has been a long time since I felt confident on a 3rd (or 4th) and 1 against anyone.

You don’t want me to suggest the last season we had true depth on the offensive line, do you? “The truth, you can’t handle the truth.”

Here’s a hint….all the starters played in the NFL Business.
