Georgia-LSU, too tempting to pass up

I thought it was likely CBS would grab next week’s Georgia-LSU match as its 3:30 game of the week, and it has.  The pairing of two top ten teams (barring an upset this week) was bound to be attractive.  But there’s another selling point.

CBS has selected the LSU-Georgia game for its featured broadcast that day, and the game will kick off shortly after 3:30 p.m.

The fast start by Ole Miss, which just won at Texas, increased the chances that CBS might want the Rebels’ visit to No. 1 Alabama. But the network evidently preferred what seems likely to be a matchup of top-10 teams, as well as the return of LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger to Athens.

Mettenberger was dismissed from Georgia before the 2010 season. He transferred to a junior college and then LSU, where he is currently in his second year as the starter.

Oh, yeah, the Mettster.  The prodigal son’s return home should give Uncle Verne and Tracy plenty of fodder to fill the dead air time with during the broadcast.  Look on the bright side – at least it should cut down the Manziel chatter.

I just hope the defense shows up to play. Aaron > Mett but all we’re going to hear is the opposite if the Palmetto state D makes another appearance.

I’m as guilty as anyone for responding to the trolls, but we really need to totally ignore them. They feed on our responses and are by no means interested in honest discussion. I’m going to try to limit my response to them as “ITT” (Ignore the troll) and hope everyone will. They seek to poison something we all enjoy…this blog. IGT

Too early for such seriousness…”IGT” should be “ITT”. Sorry.
Maybe the stadium will reach new heights for noise. It’s been a whole week since so much was on the line for two teams playing between the hedges.

What they really should be doing a story on is what makes Georgia different, why are our cast offs now QB’s of two SEC West schools, inquiring minds want to know.

“What makes Georgia different”…is a good thing. If done honestly it would demonstrate the difference between a coach who practices integrity and all of the great pretenders. I’d love to see it if it was done honestly.

Agreed, it would be a great opportunity to highlight one of the guys doing it right in college football and being successful.

Mark Richt has a bigger QB development resume than Les and Gus combined (and Nick for that matter). Why wouldn’t they want our castoffs?

I know this is weak sauce but I feel for Mettenberger’s mom having to go through those memories again.

Yep, Mett’s consequences passed on to Mom & Dad. Such is life.

Seriously? How about for the girl? Kids lucky he isn’t doing time. He molested someone. His punishment is switching schools?! Strong armed QBs have it so so rough.

Sydney your reading and comprehension skills are off this morning. I was posting about Zach’s Mom. She has been involved with the University since she was 8 and has worked in the football office for the last 10 years. Any empathy I have for her does not cheapen the sympathy I feel for Met’s assault victim. Met created several victims that night. But, I don’t demand that he carry a scarlet letter around for the rest of his life. He hasn’t been in any trouble since that night. He seems to have moved on with his life and learned from a very expensive, embarrassing and painful lesson. There were a lot of losers that night and not just the two at the bar.

  10. Not at all excited about to hearing how Mettenberger “outplayed” Murray in the spring game for 3.5 hours.

Keep working on that pass rush, Bulldogs.

That would be worse punishment than he could ever get in Lowndes county.

The Mett storylines are interesting, for sure. Too bad we’ll all be sick to death of it before gameday even arrives .. par for the course these days. But it’s OK, because it’s good for Georgia. The Auburn game will have a similar line.

Question: How many teams in SEC history have had a schedule with two opponents whose starting QB’s were kicked out of their program?

If we had beaten the first ex-UGA QB we faced in 2001, we likely would have faced a second one in the Cotton Bowl.

(Neither was kicked off the team. Both left on their own.)

Was that Cobb and Hybl, who both lost out to QC? I swear Cobb was a sophmore in 1998 and played for 6 years somehow.

Glad it’s the one game this California resident will be able to attend in person this year (unless we make it to Pasadena!). Really don’t think I could bear hours of Mett-centric gabbing. And to think: we may have to go through this again in the game with The Barn.
