Washington lobbyist Jack Burkman on Monday said he is preparing legislation that would ban gay athletes from joining the National Football League.
Burkman in a statement said he has garnered political support for the bill, though his statement didn’t mention any specific lawmakers who are behind it.
”We are losing our decency as a nation,” Burkman said in a statement. “Imagine your son being forced to shower with a gay man. That’s a horrifying prospect for every mom in the country. What in the world has this nation come to?”
Burkman said he came up with the idea after college football star Michael Sam publicly revealed he is gay a few weeks ago. If drafted, Sam would be the first openly gay player in the NFL.
Now I think this stands the proverbial snowball’s chance of being enacted into federal law… but can I see certain state legislatures feverishly embracing this with open arms and applying it to college football teams? Oh hails, yes.

The shower thing is an issue unto itself. Would Sam showering with 52 dudes following practice/game not be the same as me showing with 52 women? I am awaiting the separate shower issue here. Or, total co-ed showers for all! All it takes is one player telling the GM that he is uncomfortable with it.

If any guy has romantic interests toward you, I’m sure you would notice right away.
Anyone knows that a simply requirement of everyone wearing a bell tied onto the end of their “dangerzone” in the shower will “raise” the alarm. Hope no one tells Buckman or Skeptic or we will get legislation passed that will kick up bell-making stocks.

GA is attempting to allow it right now. The religious freedom bill would allow any organization to discriminate based on their beliefs.

Only oppressors try to write discrimination into law. This is the 21st century Jim Crowe.
The law would also open the door for people to refuse to serve black people, refuse to serve Jews, Christians, and Muslims, refuse to serve women, etc. All you need to do in court is claim you hold a personal religious belief that there is something wrong with those people.

A law like that would allow extremist muslims to claim they were allowed to discriminate and thus bring justice to those whom they have slain. Maybe a little bit of a jump there, but its not as big a jump as you would think.

It’s really weird to hear some communities who have been so sensitive to issues of religious discrimination at home and abroad so determined to write it into law. Once it becomes a legal power, it can be used on anyone.

Whatever happened to the 60-70s open-mindedness personified by Johnny Carson and Alex Karras (appeared on Carson before having his own show) where Carson mentioned that Karras was the only Greek playing pro ball and Karras replied, “Not true!….. at least judging by the look in some guys’s eyes when someone bends over to retrieve the soap in the shower.” .

50 some odd physically fit nfl players moms will be afraid of thier sons showering with a gay dude, so he has to ban them from the nfl? NFl players are most likely not showering with kids, how do you make that leap from playing on the field to showering with kids?
If he wants to inact morals back into the US, well fine start in Congress.

Maybe it’s just me but I don’t understand why the NFL or college football needs communal showers for sanitary reasons. With all the money they make why not have stalls? I hated group showers in pe classes and it had nothing to do with he sexual orientation of the others in the shower.

Because it’s easier in a communal shower to ask the guy next to you to bend over and pick up your soap than do it yourself in a stall. :-0
