Interesting SEC football tweak amid the hoops: Florida & Georgia each can wear home jerseys in Jacksonville per Jeremy Foley on UF site.

Our boys will look good regardless, but that nasty Blue and Urnge? Gross…

But are we still allowed to wear black helmets and black pants?

It would be interesting to see both teams wearing alternate unis (black vs. orange) from time to time, especially given the game’s proximity to a certain holiday… our 2015 schedule practically begs for it. But with the “fake juice” stigma, I doubt we’ll get to see see anything like that happen for a long time.

I actually like this idea. I’m not worried about the uniform issue as having a bearing on how we play… so long as it’s not some sort of surprise.. then it has the ability to become a distraction. So long as it’s known beforehand and the focus is on the game… I’d love to see the black jerseys again… BUT… the only problem is the temperature sometimes.. you gotta watch the temperature in Jacksonville sometimes. We’ll see.

I remember when the game was on Halloween a few years ago and I suggested this to a friend. It would be kind of funny, but also kind of cool.

I’m going to assume Florida will have the good sense not to wear their orange jerseys.

Good sense went out the door when they decided to purchase anything Orange.

Their orange jerseys usually show up as red on my TV. Very confusing.

All part of Agent M’s plan.

You need a new TV.

“Does that mean that both schools will claim the WLOCP as a home game? ” It IS a home game for Florida. It is NOT a home game for Georgia no matter what Jeremy Foley says or what color unis are worn. There is such a thing as reality even though some (including many on this blog) like to pretend otherwise.

^^This is the most intelligent thing you have ever said on the WLOCP venue issue. At least it isn’t made-up BS and is, therefor, an improvement.

Mayor I guess you don’t have much history with the game in Jacksonville then….. we used to own that town and it WAS a home game for us (I know, I was there, at least I “think” I was there…. everythings a bit fuzzy….). Come the clock hitting 0:00 the Gators high tailed it out of there and got on US 301 (also known as the Gator trail of tears) to slither back to Gainesville. Come Saturday night there wasn’t a Gator in sight.
Sure they had their run once Spurrier became coach, bit that dominance is over now.
That game should never, ever leave Jax. Its one of the unique games in college football, heck even games like Michigan/Ohio State or USC/Notre Dame (and yes, even the Iron Bowl since they moved it from Birmingham) aren’t the same (the neutral site thing takes it to another level), the only other game that compares is the Red River Rivalry in Dallas every year.

So are you saying that the Dawgs have won the last three on the road? Or that UF can’t protect their home turf against an out-of-state rival? I’m confused, and my head hurts.

You mean the reality that UGA leads the all time series?

Oops…meant that for Mayor not Ben.

The crowd is split 50/50. Now that planes are involved, both teams travel about the same distance. The weather, at worst, is what we had in Athens 3-4 weeks prior. Seems like a neutral site game to me.

UGA playing Bama in Birmingham (we did that when it was Bama’s home game for years)–was that a neutral site? UGA took a plane–that was about the same travel time that Bama had by bus from Tuscaloosa. The weather there is about the same as in Athens. Does that seem Like a neutral site to you, too?

No because the tickets weren’t split 50/50.

If the tickets were split 50/50 do you think would Birmingham be a neutral site for that game?

A major city n the GA/AL border that neither team has ever played regular season home games in would be a better comparison to UGA/UF in Jax.

According to Sanford222view above the deciding factor on whether a venue is neutral is splitting the tickets 50/50, so why would the location of the stadium ever matter?
LikeLike
That’s not a comparison…. the tickets were not split for those games as they are in Jax.

Mayor would you just shutup and be happy for once in 50 years!

I think it’s great. I’ve been pushing this idea for a long time, especially since the rules cleared they way a year or two ago.
This was done some in the ’60’s and early ’70’s by Bama-Tennessee, and I always thought it looked great. And with Georgia’s red, it’ll be a great contrast no matter what Florida wears.
I wish we’d do it more. Kentucky would really be good, and there’s plenty of others.

It looks cool when UCLA-USC do it, imo

I like it when the song girls do it. But maybe that’s just me?

Not a song girl fan myself but I am guessing you would prefer them to wear the flesh colored tops?

Yep. I had forgotten that. It actually made me watch more of the game than I would have otherwise.
But ours are the best in the country. They’ll look great vs. UCLA, Kentucky, LSU’s purple (though they won’t do it), or any school that offers enough contrast.

It used to be that way all the time. We wore red and the Gators blue when Bill Stanfill body slammed the OBC all day long. We used to wear red when Auburn wore blue. Great contrasts and no issue whatsoever. And yeah, USC-UCLA looks awesome when each wear their home jersies.

Especially since Bill sacked little Steve three times in FU’s only loss of Spurrier’s Heisman year. And Bill had a bad neck before the game.

I like it because I like our Reds. I’m biased. But home/home might look good for this game, and anything to attract the eyes of those unfortunates who don’t already know what a great rivalry in a perfect setting this game is, the better.

I like it! Home/Home would look good.

i don’t like this. the odd year white, even year red pattern makes it easier for my feeble mind to replay the games in my head. now i have no hope in 10 years from now of remembering if we wore red or white in a given game since we always will be wearing red 😉
