Maybe we can break some records in the weightroom this summer and have 100% participation in he voluntary workouts and 120% effort in the mandatory workouts.

42 eh I know I’m old but I never thought we would ever see the scores that are happening now. The points would be cut in half if the damn refs would only call holding on the pass rush. Being a fan of Defense is a dying breed.

Yes, but somewhere between Dooley-ball and today’s game would be really cool. The old 13-10 slugfests were no better than the 45-42 games. Somewhere around 24-17ish is enough balance. I don’t like feeling the offense cannot score, or the defense can never make a stop, both are bad versions of football. If I had to choose, I guess I would take the shootouts, there are more ways to do that and see a lot of great plays. Perhaps those late night, West Coast games are winning me over. When the defense dominates too much it seems the skill players are just inept. But I hear ya, there just doesn’t seem to be enough balance in today’s game.

No kidding, if I wanted to watch 50+ runs for 2-3 yds, low scoring, and iffy passing, I’d watch Big 10 (sic) games.

I bought into the talk one time – ’06 I think, maybe ’07 – and let it affect my thinking, but have not tasted the kool-aid since. I knew better than to swallow it that time. There were several years, later, where the OL was the talk rage, but I never drank. Like some of you I’m sure, I was like “show me”.
Because it’s always something, and a lot of it doesn’t come from Athens. This year, the leader is “best LB corps in America”.
Nobody is more excited about this year’s developments than me. But I still have to see it, that’s when I’ll know it’s real. Even so, I feel better after Bailey’s comments. Since Grantham left, this year has had an entirely different feel to it, much different than previous years. And the talk out of Athens has had a different feel.
This feels different, too.

I want to believe things will be different. I really do. There are just far too many issues on this team for me to truly buy in. Given the returning “talent”, I only seen 8 or 9 wins this season. That’s nothing to get excited about in June.

That’s very much an understandable position. Normally, I’d be somewhere around there, close to you and Alpha, knowing we would probably give a game or two away. And we still might not win more than 8 or 9 games, which would be another lousy record in my book. Four or five losses is too many to be even mediocre at Georgia.
But it’s the potential of the changes that have me excited. Not only better coaching, but the obliteration, hopefully once and for all, of the destructive culture that became ingrained in our program early on under Martinez, survived under Grantham, and has continued to haunt us to this day. If that’s not on the way out, then nothing that much is going to change, in terms of what we get out of our players on the field.
And BTW, by “culture”, I don’t mean arrests or drugs, etc.. We really don’t have a problem with that now (though it was a manifestation of it at one time), and Richt has handled that issue very well, IMO. I mean the ingrained ethic of the program, which incorporates work ethic, leadership, buying in, selling out, maxing out, doing everything the right way, attention to detail, discipline – all those things – and from the coaches a very high level of expectation and the balls to be tough enough to demand that those expectations are met or exceeded.
When, and if, that happens, we’ll begin to see a different kind of ball on the field. Instead of giving games away, we’ll become opportunistic. Instead of being soft physically, we’ll be tough to the extent teams will not look forward to playing us. Instead of being soft mentally, we’ll play with a solid mentality that doesn’t make many mistakes, and because of that, be a team that stays in every game and as the game goes along, keeps the pressure on the opponent. And so on.
That kind of ball is fun to watch, and especially so with our multiple system. Not only that, at a place like Georgia, it produces a consistently good record, and teams that are consistently in the hunt for Titles and Championships very late into the season.
So that’s the basis for my excitement. And for the first time, instead of seeing the potential and just hoping, there is actual evidence to support the customary information that the change is finally taking place.
Now how that translates onto the field this year is still anybody’s guess. But I think it’s fair to say the downside should be limited, compared to what it would have been had there been no change, and the upside is drastically raised. Because now, should we be fortunate enough to be in the thick of things late in the year, we may actually be able to handle it.
However, we still have to learn how to win, because this team doesn’t know how. There’s a reason Saban’s ’07 team lost 6 regular season games, and then was a very solid team the next year, going 12-0 with pretty much the same players.
So, in that sense, I hope for a year similar to 2002, where that team had to go through the same process, and before the schedule was done, had learned how to win competitive ballgames and what it takes.
Looking at it that way, strictly based on matchups, etc., I would pretty much agree.
We don’t have as much talent right now as most Dawgs believe, our eval/recruiting having been subpar for some time. But what matters most is what you get out of the players you have. I’d say we have enough players, enough talent, barely enough in some places, to beat anybody on our schedule, if we can get the most out of them.
And that’s another thing the implementation of the cultural change makes possible. It opens that door.

I’ll be happy if the team just says NO to drugs for a change. I’m sorry but MJ is just not a good drug for the defensive players. Now some good Chrystal Meth would put the kill in them. Ever see a fight between two stoners, me either.

The biggest thing I see that seems different is CMR’s smugness. He’s sporting the mannerisms of a man who is holding a very good hand.

That’s an interesting observation.
Thinking about it, I’ve noticed it, too. He’s not as conservative with his choice of words. Among other things, he seems to think our OL will be pretty good. THAT really got my attention, though it was just in passing.
But it can’t be the talent-level. Our talent is OK right now, but it’s nothing great, except maybe for RB. We’re still playing catch-up in that department.
Richt just seems more comfortable in his shoes. And again, thinking about it, that’s something you’d expect from a coach who has been in a long struggle and now feels he has the found the answers.

Seems I remember Cojones and DIF getting into a type-off years ago. They just rolled around and moaned a lot….or that have been this site bleeding over onto my favorite porn sites. Now that I think about it, I have never seen one stoner get into a fight, much less two.

I’d be ok with PCP – DEFENSE. PCP guys are the ones who go really crazy. You can shoot them 9 or 10 times and they just keep coming after you. Impressively unstoppable. They would be aggressive and would probably play through injuries. Pretty awesome…
On second thought, Penn Wagers would probably penalize us for being too tough.
Ok, Nevermind, drug free is our best option.

In all fairness, though, what else are they gonna say? It’s not like a player’s going to tell a journalist, “Yep, bunch of guys are just sitting around with their thumbs up their butts. We’re going to be totally soft this year because most guys are doing as little as they can get away with. No leadership, everyone’s fat, and we’ve collectively decided that we don’t give a damn till August.”
Of course they’ll tell us what we want to hear!
