Roster management comes to the Flats.

Georgia Tech makes a grayshirt offer.

I wonder how the Johnson Doctrine works with that.

I really wish Georgia would give this kid a look. I have watched him in person and he has been the best athlete on the field in every game this year, including dominating some UGA and D1 commits.

Well, it seems it wouldn’t take much to lure him away. All you gotta do is give him a scholly right away. Of course, if the guy just wants to be an engineer, he could be worried about the Johnson doctrine by talking to other schools and getting it yanked.

If he wants to be an engineer, he can still come to UGA.

BTW, I wonder who writes The Genius’ tweets. Somehow I can’t picture Johnson sitting on the can in the Savannah airport typing out “#TogetherWeSwarm” on his Blackberry.

Man…. so much funny in that article. Starts with ‘Coach Johnson is a class act”.

“Ivy League-type education” hmmm guess the Stewarts ain’t been to Princeton lately. Kid sure looks like a Bennett clone…what kinda speed did Bennett have?

  4. Johnson is very specific about grey shirting. The signed participant must wear a grey shirt with the words GREY SHIRT TO NOT TOUCH BY ORDER OF PAUL JOHNSON. The participant must then wear this shirt in full view of any school representatives who may intend to offer the aforementioned participant a full scholarship. Any deviancy from the the explicitly stated rules will result in shunning from stingtalk and a permanent ban from Dragoncon and all Dragoncon related activities.

You’d be surprised at the feedback I get from GT fans who read GTP.

Did they have fans before this past season? Never noticed any since Bobby Dodd’s time, before he put a dagger in the program’s heart by leaving the ACC. From all I have heard of him, I do think an offer to this player would have been in our best interests.

        • Too much! I have a Tech fan neighbor, a fact that I never knew until this last game. A closet tech fan. How bout that!? Now that he has outed himself he sports his gear all the time. He even has a We run this state sweatshirt complete with the yellow jacket and GT. Not to be outdone I had a color picture of Historic Grant Field converted to a black graphic and had it printed on a red sweatshirt. Welcome to Historic Mark Richt Field 7-0

So they stay away from the comment section here voluntarily? It’s like the anti sting talk here with no moderation.

  6. So does the 4 year scholarship rule not go into effect until next year? Funny, I read about the rule and then immediately hear of roster management moves like it’s the freaking trade deadline. Dirtbags gonna dirtbag till the bitter end. Bammer has their consultants already working on another grey area for the Great One.

I went to the same high school as Stewart. I am friends and roommates to one of his cousins. He wants to go to UGA if gets an offer. Tony Ball came to Savannah and scouted him a few times this year.

He could likely be a preferred walk-on at UGA, even if it isn’t an ‘official’ greyshirt (if there’s really such a thing as an official greyshirt). I find it hard to believe there’s ever been a coach that gives more schollys to walk-ons than Mark Richt (and managed to keep his job).

I’d love to do a “Brandon Douglas” on tech again. They were hyped on Douglas until he flipped to us, then they hated him. 🙂

Seems like this kid could contribute here as well. Maybe we’ll find a spot for him.

It sounds like this kid is a more athletic Michael Bennett (and that isn’t a knock at Bennett). Wonder why UGA hasn’t offered him?

If the post was intended to criticize Paul Johnson about how he is recruiting/offering this kid I completely disagree. There is absolutely nothing wrong with offering a grayshirt when the team is out of scholarships and it is done with all the cards on the table. Like 81 and others above I don’t see why UGA isn’t recruiting this young man. I say UGA should offer him a scholarship and if we don’t have one offer him a grayshirt.

I’m certainly no fan of Paul Johnson, but I don’t see why anyone would criticize him for this. He was straight with the kid about the grayshirt. Now, if the kid enrolled and they stiffed him on the scholarship after he promised one later, that would be different. (I didn’t think YOU were criticizing him, either).

This seems pretty different from what I’ve heard other places may do: recruit the kid, take his commitment, and then tell him at the last minute “well, our numbers are weird, so you have to grayshirt if you want to come here.”
