I don’t know if you caught this little tidbit from Wolken’s article, but behold Greg McGarity’s percieved chief adviser in the search for a new head coach:
McGarity, who has been Georgia’s athletics director since 2010, has never conducted a coaching search of this magnitude. He previously worked under Jeremy Foley at Florida, and it is expected he would lean heavily on Foley’s advice should he find himself in the middle of a coaching search.
That’s a pretty neat trick, if you’re Foley. Maybe he can recommend Steve Spurrier.
Just shoot me now. Please.
That graph and the one either immediately before or after it is why I’m in such a funk as a UGA fan. Wolken says sources have said McGarity is a fan of Dan Mullen and that scares the shit out of me.

Pruitt will not make the end of the season. Him or Richt one will be gone and Moorhead likes Richt.

I think he will last the season if nothing more than to not pay for breaking the contract. The question is does Richt send him packing 1st or if McGarity gets the green light to let Richt go. McGarity doesn’t like Richt. I’m not sold on Moorehead having Richt’s back 100%. Tarkenton was the 1st big donor for the IPF and has been known to dislike Richt. It would be interesting to know where others stand. Follow the $$$.

If it comes down to Pruitt or Richt having to go, as far as I am concerned bye-bye Mark. Pruitt’s problem is he wants to win and everybody else on the staff just wants a paycheck, particularly the head coach.

He was hired by a school that allowed Jackie Sherrill to bite the balls off a cow.

Darn it, Scorpio, get the important facts straight. Jackie didn’t bite the balls off a bull, he had somebody else do it:
“Coach Jackie Sherrill apologized yesterday for allowing the castration of a bull in front of his Mississippi State football team, and the school’s president promised that such an incident would not occur again.
‘Even though I was not involved in the procedure that took place, I take responsibility,’ Sherrill told his weekly news conference. ‘If this incident was in any way not perceived as proper by those who love Mississippi State, then I apologize.’
The bull was castrated in front of the team on a practice field before Mississippi State defeated the Texas Longhorns, 28-10, on Sept. 5. Later, Sherrill said he allowed the procedure because it was educational and motivational.”

Why do people think coaching searches are difficult? They aren’t. 90% is how big your wallet is, and after that it’s a crapshoot. If we fire Richt, there’s roughly an 80% chance we will replace him with someone far worse.
Then we can fire McGarity for allowing this to happen, hire a competent AD, and hopefully have a winning program around 2020-2025.

I’ve been anti-Kirby too. But I’m beginning to think he might be a good fit.
*He’s one of the few people I can think of we could bring in who can recruit and coach a defense as well as Pruitt.
*He would also likely keep a pro-style offense, which could keep Eason et.al. in the fold.
*He’s no riskier a hire than any of the other names being bandied about.
Of course, if the newspapers are to be believed, Pruitt’s leaving because the “Alabama Way” clashes with the Georgia Way. But maybe the Georgia Way will leave with Richt.

Well, actually no. The two times they’ve won (and last year when they came close for 3.5 quarters) they went with a spread/run option scheme that’s 180 degrees from Bama.

My only requirement is that any new head coach has the smarts to be accepted as a freshman student at UGA. That eliminates many on the list. Jimbo and Mullen specifically. Still thinking that Mike Bloomgren would fit the bill. We could get him for probably $3 million with a graduated payment scale which would help offset buyouts of current coaches.
I would fire adgm and give Derek Dooley a serious look at ad. These leaks in the national media sound way too much like quotes.

Agree Senator. It takes a major, I mean a major event, to take out old dinosaurs.
But CMR has made the UGA title hopes extinct anyway. So it does not matter…except at other SEC schools.
Winning pays the bills, or have the B-M group not figured that out in 10 years or 10 more.
Are you glad you paid that kind of money this year to see Schottenheimer’s offense score. Stats do not lie. Plus if you had an eye you could see it to some degree in the first 3 games. That is why Pruitt was cranked up in the UT game and Vandy game.
Really does not matter. It is the Georgia way of being second rate.

I don’t know. I’m far from a so-called insider, but I’m hearing about a total overall of the AD.
Much as we all rejoiced about the myriad changes that took place in the AD last off-season, more positive changes to come with the team itself very well could be a good thing. After all, we’re finally getting an IPF…that alone tells you that the Georgia Way might be on its knees at this point.

The name for AD is simple: Matt Stinchcomb. He’d quickly become one of the sharpest young ADs in the nation. In this day and age, you need an AD that understands media more than just about anything else. He’s 38-39 years old. He’d be awesome. He understands college athletics and academics.

He’s gone. There’s no way he survives this. The “one more year with an ultimatum” never works and will set the program back an extra 2 years. You have to move on at this point. But like any divorce or the dividing up of an estate, everything’s always polite and friendly until we start talking money. I can only hope the administration doesn’t let that get in the way of an amicable separation. And just to be clear, I’m not anti-Richt. Never have been. He’s a good man and a good coach, but 15 years at one place, in this league and in this era is probably too long. I know we’re reading the will while he’s still breathing, but this is big business and it’s ugly. That being said, Senator, who do you like? Not crazy about Mullen or Smart. Smart has never really even been a coordinator. But he can recruit, and that’s 75% of the job. Give or take 20%. I just don’t see how the right guy couldn’t clean up in this state. Gruden would be the choice for me and he’d succeed. I have no doubt about that. But they’d have to pay him Saban money to not bolt for the NFL after a year or two. I’d roll the dice and overpay for a good seven or eight year run with Gruden. But that probably makes too much sense. Who else? I know I’m going to get laughed at for this, but how about Herm Edwards. The guy can coach defense and I just have to believe that he’d be a great recruiter. He brings energy and enthusiasm and he can sell himself. And let’s face it, for the most part these aren’t mental giants we’re recruiting. They’d buy in to what he’d be selling. Look @ Junior. Say what you want about him, but if he’d had stayed at UT, he’d have turned it around. Recruits loved him.

I would just caution folks than an awful lot of these articles being written this week have some pretty thin journalism in them. Even the Emerson-Towers piece used passive voice to say “Richt has been issued a directive” but avoided saying who issued it. And the quote referred to above about “it is expected that McGarity would lean heavily on Foley’s advice” is another un-sourced line. Who expects it? Someone actually in the know or just someone speculating with no real knowledge? Given that McGarity hasn’t actually made a high-profile hire, we truly don’t know what he’d do and I doubt this source does either. “Hey Fred, if I have to fire Mark, first call is to Jeremy down in Gainesville. Just file that away.” A lot of this stuff wouldn’t fly if being written about anything more than an intercollegiate athletic team.
I’ll admit to having serious skepticism about McGarity’s ability to hire a coach based on rather uninspired returns so far on his other hires, so I think it is more than reasonable to have some concerns about his judgment and ability with regards to that. But I also don’t know that he is dumb enough to consult our biggest rival’s athletic director on the most important hire of his career and highest profile coach in his department.
Given the day’s roller coaster of Pruitt rumors and everyone else’s “sources’ I’d just caution folks to have a jaundiced eye on some of the more inflammatory or provocative rumors.
I think there is plenty of real smoke to this fire that there is no need for any embellishment

I hate all the talk in mid-season, but maybe the talk will unite the team and they will fight for CMR’s job. Fifteen years is a long time to be at one program and Richt taking a job at a place like Miami might be best for him and the UGA program. When leaving USC Pete Carroll said that Bill Walsh always told his staff that ten years was long enough for a HC to stay at one place. The front office and the fans get tired of the Coach and the Coach gets tired of them.
