Seth Emerson tells us that (1) here is a press conference scheduled for this morning at which McGarity and Richt are supposed to be in attendance; and (2) McGarity is scheduled to meet with Georgia players later today.
Would there be anything more Georgia-ish than for McGarity to call upon the man he just fired to help smooth the waters? Not that I would expect Richt to do anything less…

UPDATE: Yup.

UPDATE #2: More yup.

I hope the players don’t show up for the McGarity meeting. What a total was of time.

What is he going to say? Seems like a pointless meeting to me. This maybe would have made sense, if he had this meeting before word got out Richt was fired.

What if they pull a Mizzou and go on strike?

That thought actually occurred to me.

Will state that Richt is a far better person than me to stay on and help the AD. Be your gofer? nope.

I wouldn’t be as nice about this as CMR is being, I can tell you that for certain.

That probably goes along with the severance package and the buyout clause. All of this points more and more to my BM concerns.

right, if B-M knew what they were doing they’d go to Magistrate Court to get an eviction and put his shit on the curb.

I’m going to wait to see what GM and CMR have to say. What if CMR says I quit because GM told me to fire Shittenplaycaller and I refused? or CMR says I’m worn out and need to step down?

I doubt he’d be that forthcoming about Schotty, but if that was his position, thanks, Coach, but goodbye. If that was the hill he died on, well …

Yeah, a little voice in the back of my head wonders the same thing. I know Richt is loyal (to a fault), so it wouldn’t totally surprise me to hear it. Not that we’ll hear it.

If McGarity is telling me, as the head coach, which of my assistants to fire, then I’m not the head coach anyway and I’m outta there. If I’m the guy with 30 years coaching experience and I know the problem is talent that will be fixed in a year or two, and if I believe the OC I currently have will be successful with that talent, then I wouldn’t put up with McGarity’s crap either. See ya, Dumbo!!!

History repeating itself. People think Mike Adams fired Jim Donnan because of won-loss issues. Not so. Adams fired Donnan because Adams told Donnan to fire Donnan’s son as QB coach and hire somebody more in line with the expertise one would expect for a team like Georgia at that position. Donnan told Adams to GFH. Hence, Donnan’s departure.

Listening to the press conference … McGarity is a weasel.

Yes. GM told Richt he had to fire the OC and Richt said no. The comments spell it out between the lines.

I was listening on WSB, who cut away from the Q&A session (very surprised), so I didn’t hear that.

Neither said it, but it was between the lines.

Listening was probably very interesting, but watching it is priceless. The way to get the most information out of it is to watch GM’s facial expressions while Richt is talking. There was one moment in particular where he got so discombobulated that it took him a moment after that to realize that a reporter was asking him the next question. He bounced his eyes around and up to the ceiling and they almost seemed to bounce out of his head before he started answering the question.

It happened right after Richt answered the question of why he was fired. (about 21:10). You could tell throughout that McGarity wasn’t 100% certain that Richt was gonna play nice. But of course he did, classy guy that he is.

If that’s what happened, then I’ve got no problems with it. I’ve said it several times here when CMR’s job looked secure: If it took getting rid of Richt to get rid of Schottenheimer, then best of luck to them both.

I gotta agree with that. CMR is one stubborn guy (see: No ST Co-ordinator even when everybody in the world told Richt, “You should hire a ST Co-ordinator.)

My rage grows every time that man gets the opportunity to speak on behalf of the program or Richt. He should have been on the first bus out of town yesterday. The man has never asserted himself in anything, until now, when he can twist the knife a little more and pull the will wool over our eyes a bit more. The irony of McGarity getting to do this isn’t lost on me.

Anyway…it should be a couple boosters speaking, not McGarity.

That would be outstanding, with an added bonus of seeing McGarity figuratively lying on the floor of the arena like Commodus. I really dislike that guy.

That press conference… my goodness. Mark Richt is pure class. No matter what his detractors might say, the man is just pure class. McGarity didn’t do himself any favors by sitting next to the man at that press conference, because the side-by-side comparison is anything but flattering.
