If just 2 of these guys can hold their own and play significant snaps as freshmen it will be a blessing, 3+ would be gravy.

I think Wilson and the JUCO tackle would be the best candidates to contribute immediately. Probably both as tackles.
That would likely put Wynn at left guard. Galliard (sp?) is the next man up at center. So the biggest question is whether an underclassman can unseat Simms at the other guard spot.

The real problem last year was all the linemen were really guards and some good players (Pyke for example) got played out of position to their detriment and the team’s detriment. We need real tackles not the imitation variety.

Hopefully, you are right. But I have a hard time seeing how this year’s backups will be a huge improvement. If they are that good, I would have loved to have seen them on the field taking their lumps.

Sturdivant was the best looking talent I have seen come into UGA in decades, and man did he deliver until the football gods decided to crap on him. One of the saddest days was when I realized he would never get to realize his dreams, and truly get paid for all his efforts. Really hope he is having a great life and succeeding at his chosen profession. We have some young OL studs coming in that seem capable of contributing next fall. Fingers crossed.

Agree ..terrible fate for him. I always liked Boling …he was a lunch-pail kid that succeeded with technique. By his junior/senior years he could plugnplay anywhere needed.

True, he was a real grinder. Seems he got $100 worth if production out of $50 of natural born talent. Always love seeing a few of those guys sprinkled throughout the roster.

I wondered about Cleveland all year. He was a 4 or 5 star, big kid, smarts and an early enrollee I think. You have to ask what happened.

I saw the Thomas kid from Pace and Shaffer and Johnson from Cedar Grove live against Greater Atlanta Christian who was good up front as well. All three of them are really talented and large human beings.

The Green Bay Packers starting offensive line, 324, 314, 310, 314, 318, believe all those dudes to small to play for Pittman. I just somehow think coaching is as important as weighing 350 pounds.

Yep, in 2011 we had the largest line in all of football. That didn’t stop Boise State from whipping us in the Dome. I still blame those Power Ranger uniforms.
Size doesn’t mean much if you don’t know technique.

UGA had the largest OL in the nation, college or pro, in 2010 and finished the season 6-7. That OL got pushed around all season by DLs that were substantially smaller, particularly in the bowl game against UCF.

Haven’t we had several high school kids come in and they were too huge and didn’t start until they lost weight……I swear I remember that happening. 360 lbs don’t mean shit with 35% body fat. I personally think freshmen linemen get your qb hurt. Happy talk and size is great but experience and size is better. Now, get off my lawn damnit
