6. Jacob Eason, Georgia
2016: 204/370 (55.1%), 2,430 yards (6.6 per attempt), 16 TDs, 8 INTs, 120.2 passing efficiency
The true freshman’s season was vaguely disappointing, not unlike the result for the Georgia team as a whole. His highs were high, but his lows were both quite low and too frequent. He did improve through the season, but he spoiled it with mediocre showings against Georgia Tech and in the bowl against TCU. He has all of the physical tools, but it may take him longer to put it all together than anticipated before last year.
Throwaway quarterback year, for the win.

Perhaps an improved offensive line may be of help in enabeling him to accelerate his improvement.

I agree that a stronger OL and better play calling will help him. No question Eason has the physical tools (size, arm strength) to be a star. The area where I think he needs to really show improvement for the team to reach the next level is in his ability of making WR reads and then getting the ball QUICKLY to the open receiver. It seems like there were too many instances where guys were wide open and he either didn’t see them or thru to the wrong man and by the time he got the ball there it was too late orbehind the receiver. I realize this is a tough thing for a Freshman QB, but I hope he shows big strides in this area with a year under his belt.

This is all ridiculous. Eason will be the best qb on the field every game we play for the rest of his career, except when we play USC in the playoff, then it’ll be close.

I agree that after 3 years as a Dawg , Eason will be ready for the NFL.
However, I still think Fromm will EARN some playing time along the way.

No denying the arm strength for Eason. And I would add, his level emotional control which keeps him from deep valleys some QBs get into when they miis an easy throw, or get picked. He does seem to have that confidence winning QBs need to have. But here is also no denying his lack of accuracy, especially on lengthy throws, and his inability to see the whole field causing missed opportunities to find open receivers. You have to think he will improve in the latter area, although he did not seem to progress much in picking up receivers during the 2016 season. The accuracy is the major concern for me, some of that may be the ability to throw when under pressure. Not sure how much he was ever pressured in HS, but he has to overcome that at this level, and the next. He actually looked better when breaking the pocket and throwing on the run, or after resetting his feet after rolling out.
UGA certainly needs him to step up in 2017, he will have the tools around him to do so. Rating him in the middle seems fair, he had some highs but let downs as well, including that inexplicable game against SC. Hope he takes some big steps this fall and we can be that two dimensional threat required to achieve our goals.

I must be the only one who thinks he had a great year considering everything. I sure didn’t miss Lambert.

No joke. Yeah, he missed some throws. He was also running for his life most of the time, and aside from a couple of games he was unable to rely on the run game as cover to set up high percentage passes. I believe all that will be mostly cured this season.

He was the 9th best freshman qb in the country….out of 11.
I felt the same way about Eason until I looked at the stats and the end of the season and saw that he really didnt play that well this season.

well considering how bad this team was being better than UGA isnt a very high bar, but…
Oregon, Baylor, Texas, Duke, and SMU all had better freshman QB play. I believe that those teams were all worse than UGA at least record wise.
I doubt any of them have nearly the talent that we have, yes even on the OL.
USC obviously had the best FR QB in the country…Of course they just hired a first time head coach who in his first season got his team to improve and play great ball towards the end of the season.

There’s nothing wrong with Eason that a Mike Bobo and some OL protection couldn’t fix. Let’s hope the latter shows up next season and over the off-season Chaney grows a brain.
