No nooner for you!

This season’s Notre Dame game will kickoff at 7:30 PM and be shown on NBC.

That should make the sports bars in South Bend happy.

    I imagine the AD is already trying to figure out how the ’19 game can be at noon on the SEC Network.

    I was hoping for this. Cubs vs. the Brewers at Wrigley at 1pm on Friday. The dawgs in South Bend on Saturday night. Now we just need a decent game at Soldier Field on Sunday and the stars will be aligned for greatest sports weekend ever. The falcons are on the bears home schedule but no date until next month.

        That’s part of it. The other part of it is that we request earlier time slots when we aren’t one of the marquee games. It’s why we’ve had more noon home games the last 7-8 years than any other SEC team by a wide margin.

          Given the team’s record in noon games last year, one can only hope Smart puts out word to his AD that maybe that request should stop going forward.

          Don’t think we request them, but we have indicated we don’t oppose them and even see some advantages. Hard to find anyone else in CFB that takes that position so we get steamrolled by being a willing victim. Not even idiot McGoofy’s policy either, began before him, but he has done nothing to change it. Playing meaningless OOC opponents certainly adds fuel to the problem.

            Our policy’s first option is to hold our home games in another city.

            It is better to have Jacksonville and Atlanta deal with the riff-raff and keep them off our campus. We just collect the proceeds and and incur none of the costs.

            But given the tight schedules at those facilities, this is not always possible.

            Our policy’s second option is the 12:00 noon time slot in Athens. It keeps the riff-raff on campus only long enough for us to distribute our open container citations, then we politely dismiss them in time for all of us to get home for supper.

        The fact is noon games are less expensive for us to deliver.

        Yes, these games provide a competitive on-field advantage to our guests, but the limited tailgating time keeps cleanup, law enforcement, and traffic management costs at a minimum.

        Our guests may win from 12-3pm, but The Georgia Way wins in the long run.

            Don’t think for a minute they don’t have that calculated into their costs. I wonder if the lights cost 6 figures or more to run per game.

              Since you asked, we suspended our bulb maintenance program at the end of the 2014 season after liability insurance on our volunteer labor became cost-prohibitive.

              This did eventuality bring our electricity costs under six figures beginning with the Missouri game in 2015.

              Research recently completed by our Office of Sustainability has indicated that two additional LED advertising strips and a 30% increase to the size of our scoreboard ads will provide enough light for television, in case we encounter an early afternoon weather delay.

              Thus, we have petitioned the SEC office to allow us to sell our existing light towers to a deserving high school program.

        Certainly winning more would put us in position for more CBS3:30 slots and ESPN/ESPN2 night slots, but there is still something that doesn’t pass the smell test when it comes to home games relegated to the SEC Network/SEC Net alternative. Between the two, there are six slots-two at noon, two at 4pm, and two at 7:30/8pm. All four of our home games on the SEC Net/alt were noon starts. Kentucky, South Carolina, and Missouri all seem to get later starts more frequently. Especially Kentucky. All seven of their home games were on either the SEC Net or the alternative network. So that tells us they aren’t exactly in demand for CBS or ESPN/ESPN2. But check out the start times. Southern Miss @UK- 7:30, New Mexico St. @UK- 4pm, South Carolina @UK- 7:30, Vandy @UK- 4pm, Miss St @UK- 7:30, UGA @UK- 7:30, and Austin Peay @UK- 4:30. Austin Freaking Peay. There is no doubt in my mind that these other schools don’t make their preferences for later starts known to the league office. I also have no doubt that we don’t let our starting time preference known also. With six slots available, there’s no way the Vandy and Tech games should have been at noon.

    Having attended games at Notre Dame, you WILL be treated as a respected guest.

    Get there early and set up your tailgate in the open fields south of the stadium, get to the grotto then to the color guard ceremony at Bond Hall about two hours before gametime.

    The town is no where near as fun as Athens, so spend Friday night in Chicago. But UGA can learn a lot from Notre Dame on how to treat their fans on game day.

      +1. Went to a game in South Bend for the first time last fall. Very nice folks, both before AND after the game (which the home team lost). I’ve been to plenty of tailgates where the home team fans are fairly cordial before the game and after a win, but it’s quite a different story after a loss. Not my experience at ND.
