It’s times like this that make you wonder what Joe Paterno might be facing were he still alive.
The former athletic director at Penn State University has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor child endangerment charge for his role in the Jerry Sandusky child molestation case, more than five years after the scandal broke.
We’ll never know, of course, which may be a monumental blessing for his family.
“Penn State’s costs related to the Sandusky scandal are approaching a quarter-billion dollars.”
Whew!

You know, we all point at the Penn State affair as exhibit A when it comes to the NCAA getting a too big for its britches when it comes to enforcement. But you don’t dole out a quarter-BILLION dollars because it’s easier to settle than litigate. The NCAA was certainly premature. And they were outside their normal jurisdiction. But there was certainly something rotten in Happy Valley. Amazingly enough, the alumni I know are all still in serious denial. In fact, they’re mostly indignant to this day.

Good comment. See exactly the same thing, ends justified the means here.

I think JoPa would have been charged like the others. I doubt a Happy Valley jury would have convicted him.

A quarter billion, and it still doesn’t seem like it hurt the athletic budget. Must be one helluva reserve fund.

It’s a sad commentary on our society when the love of a game played by young adults can garner so much feeling and emotion that normally reasonable people can defend the indefensible.

Maybe this is the kind of rainy day that McGarity is worried about.
Let the commoners stand in pee and wait 30 mins for a hot dog just in case one or more of our 6 figure administrators royally fucks up.

It is amazing to me how much PSU sites and fans seem to think that they really got “screwed” by the NCAA.
Don’t get me wrong, the NCAA was and is terrible.
But with what happened at that school, they should have gotten the death penalty.
