      I hope so. And I hope he plays.

      Brice Ramsey is a great kid and he gave his all for Georgia. It didn’t work out for him here. I hope it’ll work out for him wherever he plays his senior season and that he gets to play and play well.

    Good luck to him. The Bobo to Schottenheimer change was quite possibly the worst thing that could have happened to him and his future at UGA.

    Signing day seems like ages ago. Where do we stand on scholarship numbers, and are more transfers necessary before fall?

    Figure he got a glimpse of what Fromm offers in pushing Jacob and made the correct decision for his life. Anyone who has earned his degree and been a team Dawg for 4 yrs while under 3 coaches has our respect. His family also deserves our respect for his gaining our confidence as a kicker last year and in a lesser profile role. Most of all, I thank him for performing as the Scout Team head for several years that helped to hone the first team’s skills.

      Agree, we should all wish him nothing but the best. It didn’t work out the way either party wanted it to but he kept his nose clean and stepped up as best he could when needed. This is a good example why the transfer rule is one to keep, if he gets another shot at QB, or punter, somewhere, I hope he catches the comet. It also says that KS knew this was pretty likely when he brought in more kickers this winter. Note that Brice helped him for his advice along the way. Good feeling all the way around, imo.

    This puts us right at 85 currently. I expect more attrition between now and the fall. My guess is we will be closer to 80 than 85. For everyone fretting that we over signed, you can relax. We were only two over the cap and things took care of themselves without having to “process” anyone.

    I hate to see these two go. They provided quality depth and senior leadership. Reggie would have contributed on special teams and been a mentor to the young DB’s. Brice was a valuable player in several ways. Besides being the “old man” in the QB room, his special teams ability will be missed. He was a decent emergency punter, and I would’ve loved to see him become the full time holder after his fake in the bowl game. It would have added a nice wrinkle.

    Ramsey’s most important role, in my opinion, was to make Kirby feel a lot more comfortable with possibly redshirting Fromm. Brice could have been the short-term backup on game days should Eason have gotten shaken up. Fromm’s status could have changed if it looked like Eason was to miss any extended time. Now it will be almost certain that Fromm won’t be redshirted. It’s going to make things a lot more interesting at QB.

        I have never seen any advantage in redshirting Fromm.
        He will be of help to the Offense this year. GATA.

          Unless he’s going to be a significant contributor, it would be better for him to redshirt for class separation purposes. I would have rather had Aaron Murray in 2013 than Aaron Murray in 2009.

          Just my opinion, but to bring him in as a true freshman for meaningless minutes isn’t a good idea. The only reason to play a true freshman QB is that you know he’s a 3 and out (Stafford and Eason come to mind). Right now, no one can make that case with Fromm because everyone says he’s similar to Murray.

            He can always do what Hutson Mason did. Mason took a redshirt as a junior I believe. Ramsey was 2nd string that year behind Murray so Mason could get that separation. I bet we’ll bring in two QB’s next year. Fromm can redshirt in 2018

              I get it … he should play if we need him because Eason get hurt or struggles or Fromm beats him out. He shouldn’t play if the only thing he’s going to do is hand the ball off at the end of games in mop-up duty. That would be a waste of a redshirt year. Just my opinion.

    If Eason remains the starter, what advantage would redshirting give us? Leave it off until required to play him. Others can fill in for mop-up duty. Game-time experience isn’t any better than practice experience if it isn’t performed in a tight spot. There’s always the bowl game.

      I can agree with you and ee if we are only counting mop-up duty in meaningless moments. But I feel everyone assumes Eason overcomes his accuracy issues and that he will automatically find the open receiver when under pressure. No one disagrees that experience is preferable but if he isn’t looking polished, and Fromm’s gap isn’t as big as many are assuming, he may see some meaningful moments. And we all know that the back-up is one play away from being needed (remember when Schock had to sit out that Florida game in 2005, we took a huge step back.) There will other QBs coming along, don’t keep needed ammunition in your vest when you are doing battle.

      UGA is better off if JE makes the leap, but I am very glad we have another stud on campus if needed. If Fromm’s team wins one more game last year, he breaks all of Watson’s passing records in Ga HS football and you know how many are whining that we didn’t get Watson…one more game and they make the playoffs and holds the records. Don’t count him out before we get a peek, he didn’t back away from competition when he signed with us.

    Sam Vaughn, who won scout team MVP last year, is still here. Had some pretty good credentials in HS when he came to UGA as a preferred walk on. He had scholarship offers from several mid level schools but wanted to come to UGA.

    Maybe he’s in the mix?

      I also think Parker McCloud(?), a walk on transfer from Alabama is still there too. A red shirt and separation is the ideal option. If Fromm ends up having to play meaningful minutes because Eason hasn’t matured as a QB, hello throwaway season #2.
