Mr. Conventional Wisdom, on automatic pilot

The Tony Barnhart post on the start of SEC Media Days writes itself.  Best of all, change a couple of dates, add an occasional one-sentence anecdote, and he can recycle it for at least another decade.  (Which says as much about SEC Media Days as Barnhart.)

    If a fur seal could have low self-esteem and know it….his picture would be of big Barn the hair-cut-boy. ‘Mr. Overcompensation’ reminds us what happens to wanna-be big boys who find themselves stuck in the metaphorical locker when they open their mouth.
    IMO, he was tolerable as a print man but just had to scratch that fame itch of broadcast media. Big mistake, top-lip.That was when it became clear he was a poser and condescending idiot with a faux interest in anything other than his own opinion.

    Reminds me of a couple of sales guys I knew at the end of their careers. They only cared about renewals, would skip half the team calls, would complain about their Porche or Audi repairs, and you often could hear the distint ping from a golf driver in the background as they attempted to explain their dwindling pipeline on sales update calls.

    That’s basically where Tony is at these days.

    I think Tony is probably a good guy who was better suited for the newsprint days and not the instant media of today’s world. I have no issue with him except that his desire to stay so close to the center line and avoid all controversies makes his interviews and articles just repeats of all I have heard hours/days before. It is this attempt to protect all sources and use a journalistic version of political correctness that makes the time a waste. Not saying I know all that he knows, but since he won’t discuss what I don’t already know, why listen?

    I actually think this article was interesting and worth reading. Most of Tony’s stuff is not and is made for the drive by fan.
