Don’t go. I love you so.

With Nick Saban (and Kirby Smart, no doubt) making plans to avoid running afoul of the new rule imposing a 15-yard penalty on coaches leaving the sideline to argue with officials, I would love to see a coach attempt a sarcastic variation of the patented James Brown Exit to get some hapless ref’s attention.

The get back coach is going to need to put lil Kirby in a harness.

Just sticking his hand down Kirby’s pants won’t work any more.

This is the short version. 1967 or 68 James performed to a packed house in the Steg Coliseum and did the Please Don’t Go come back at least 8 times.

Question: Is it a penalty for the coach just to come on the field for any reason or just if he is arguing/screaming at the official. I know that I would hate to be the Line Judge or Head Linesman and have to put up with the BS they get almost constantly from the sidelines.

What I heard Shaw say at Media Days the penalty was coming across the line to argue a call. Also said there would be no warning. Doesn’t seem clear to me what happens if he comes on the field to ask for an explanation of a call. My understanding is they can come onto the field to talk with players and during timeouts. We will see how equitably this gets called….I have a bad feeling about it with Kirby’s frantic ways. Over/under on Boom and Kirby getting penalties under this new rule? Six? Ten?
