Have Dawgs, will travel.

If the downside to our fan base is the few who chose the announcement of the CFP field as the perfect opportunity to show their collective asses to an opposing player, the upside more than makes up for it.

It is a long trip from Athens, Ga. to Pasadena, Calif. –2,238 miles to be exact – but that won’t stop Georgia fans from heading out West to see the Bulldogs take on Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff semifinal.

ESPN announcer Kirk Herbstreit is already expecting a lot of red and black to fill the iconic Rose Bowl.

(I’d show Herbie’s tweet, except he’s still blocking me on Twitter.)

Our travel prowess this season is a story in and of itself.  We done good.

I like how he is actively encouraging Oklahoma fans to travel, methinks he wouldn’t be doing that if the shoe was on the other foot.

He wouldn’t need to. I think it is a back handed compliment to Dawg fans that he feels the need to push the OU folks.

Herbstreit blocking you? Lol. I get blocking all the “Phylis from Mulga” types, but that is some serious thin skin on his part.

Why would anyone block Phlis? In real life, she’s a ‘Bama cheerleader and she’s hot.

Yeah, to hell with hot cheerleaders that has smoked cigarettes. Give me “miss average”, dressed in grunge, and stoned as she sucks raw weed, from God knows where and sprayed with God knows what, through a pipe or using ZigZag papers. Hard choice isn’t it? Commons sense. or flavor of the day? Oh well, something for everyone.

The problem is OU also wears red – albeit a darker shade of one – so it will be hard to tell how much of an advantage we have when then do all those pans and overhead shots. And for those familiar with the Rose Bowl, it’s hard for that place to get really loud regardless of any advantage we might have.

Kudos to those of you who will make the trip. I had decided to go and was spending of the amount of money I thought it would take to get it done, but Delta pushed it over the cliff for me.

I wonder if they’ll put together a watch event at Stegeman.

I would consider Herbstreit blocking me on twitter a win. I’m not making the trip, I have some overseas trips already planned. But I will be viewing at “Cowdog’s Under the Deck” with my favorite next door drinking buddy, the Sooner.

I didn’t follow the comment thread yesterday on the Baker Mayfield incident, so this may have been addressed, but don’t you think there’s a possibility (a) Mayfield is making it up or (b) it could be a bunch of loser non-UGA fans (read: Tech) just stirring the pot? In today’s world, that’s entirely possible and I think it’s unfair to just assume what you’re quick to slam your own fanbase for.

    Like

    • Let’s see… Mayfield got emotional and made an obscene gesture. He apologized for his behavior. That obviously makes him a fabricator.

Did Tebow or Knowshon lie when they claimed opposing fans called them on their cellphones?

There are thousands and thousands of UGA fans. To think absolutely no one in a fan base that’s crapped all over kids like Terrance Edwards and egged Aaron Murray’s house is capable of showing his or her ass to Mayfield insults my intelligence. YMMV.

Jesus, Bluto, don’t get your panties in a twist. I’m just exploring the POSSIBILITY that you are overdoing the angst towards the fanbase in general. It’s certainly possible what happened happened. But it’s equally likely that one idiot sting talker saw a posted number and called Mayfield pretending to be a “gagger” so he could brag about it, and then Mayfield took off with it. But I guess condemn away if it suits you. I just see it as more of a non-story.

Charley trippi was starting the last time we played in the rose bowl. Both of my parents were born and died in between. This may not happen again in your lifetime. There are few one in a lifetime events. This is one of them.

You put four people in a minivan and go in four hour shifts and youll be there at little cost is about 28 hours. Stop after 24, get a cheap hotel room in the desert and drive in on the 1st. The tickets ain’t that bad.

Find a way. Fly to Dallas and drive the rest of the way. Fly to Houston. Denver. Phoenix.

Sanford fucking stadium west at 2pm on 1/1/18. Get that shit done. Fuck a credit score.

I agree, except that Notre Dame was my “once in a lifetime” trip for 2017. Told the wife, yep, no other away games, won’t even go to all the home games. The 2017 budget all goes to ND. Aaaaaaaand then there was the bachelor party for Vandy, the free room in Jacksonville, and finally the SEC. My checkbook matches our home jerseys. But, all of that said, if we win the Rose, the only way I’m not in the Benz for the NC is if I’m dead.

Oh, I will be there. Wouldn’t miss it for anything.

I’ve always wanted to see us play in the Rose Bowl. I always thought it was the best site of the big bowl games and hated that they had the Pac 10/Big Ten tie in for so long. I also love the history of the game when southern teams would trek out there in the 1920’s through the 1940’s to play until they shut us out in ’46. (Probably some dawg fans had too much fun out there in ’43.)

When they opened it up for playoffs and championships, that was the place I wanted to play for it all one day. But I’ll take this.

Trippi and Sinkwich in 1943 and Chubb and Sony and Swift in 2018!

Booked our flights into PHX this morning. Found an itenerary yesterday morning at $449. Soon after that, it went up to $563. Figured we’d check this morning, hoping it would drop back down a little given that it was a Tuesday. No dice. Said itinerary went up another $100. We ended up grabbing the red-eye early on the 3rd back to ATL.

Book your flights now, folks. It ain’t getting any easier from here on out unless Delta decides to start adding a bunch of flights.

BTW, I see OU found a suitable replacement for Mixon. Their leading rusher was just named in a local woman’s protective order.

Cheapest ticket on the Rose site right now is $439.

I’m going to be really pissed if I don’t get face-value tix thru the UGAA, after they re-opened ticket sales last Sunday for people who had “forgotten” to include the Rose on their list of bowls from the original email, which was sent a month ago & specified a deadline of Nov. 29.

They did that? That’s not right imo.

They’re also not going to announce national champ game cutoffs until after the Rose Bowl. I don’t understand why they can’t go ahead and figure that out. They already know their allotment. People outside of Atlanta have travel arrangements they would need to make.

Exactly. Don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t know right now what the Rose cutoff is, and why we don’t know right now how many seats the UGAA would be getting for the Nat’l Champ game.

All their stated ticket-order deadlines are long past.

Not determining/publicizing the Natty cutoff for another 4 weeks is insane…but is also, unfortunately, par for the course for the wonderful UGA ticket office.

        • They don’t care Chop- if they can find a way to monetize it, they will. I’m guessing if we win the Rose there will be an opportunity of some sort to increase your chances ($’s) for the Natty tickets. It’s the Georgia Way

A few notes as a previous travel warrior and still frequent traveler:

–LAX has several airports to choose from, including Anaheim, Long Beach, Burbank and others. You might want to expand your search, though you will have to connect.

–When searching for flights; its very important to clean out your cache often and use sites like Kayak, as airlines put cookies on your computer and can quickly see what you are interested in. Ever thought it was odd how a flight you just searched suddenly went up $50. That’s no coincidence my friend

–For Atlanta area folks, try Birmingham; for those in north GA, try Chattanooga. Again, don’t just look at ATL-LAX only.

–I’ve been to LA. no less than 30 times and even used to spend summers there. If you are fairly well heeled, stay in Santa Monica on the beach at a place like Viceroy (my fav), Fairmont, Loews, etc. I also highly recommend the South Bay as well, particularly Hermosa and Manhattan Beach. Otherwise, DTLA is where I would strongly suggest looking, as downtown is really booming with lots of new accommodations, sites to see, etc. And its a quick and easy jaunt over to Pasadena on the 110 which is rarely crowded.
