You knew this was coming.

Yep, that’s a high school junior announcing his commitment to transfer to a different high school.
When you’ve got college coaches making offers to eighth graders, I can only see this as an inevitable result.
My 5 year old just graduated from pre-k last weekend and is entering Kindergarten in the fall. I’m now bummed that I didn’t have him do an announcement as to the elementary school he would be attending, along with detailing how his future teacher recruited him to her classroom by offering Paw Patrol and Bubble Guppies stickers. I’m a terrible parent.

I’m sure everybody’s got a good stage parent story. In my town, psycho stage parent transfers baseball player son in 10th grade. Very first game, very first inning when the team is in the field, parent notices Little Johnny in the dugout. Says: “yep, I made a mistake.” Little Johnny transfers back to the former school that summer.

Grayson HS could teach Kirby a thing or two about recruiting.

I have family that worked in a high school near Grayson. Football players would come in and ask what kind of package the school could put together to compete with Grayson’s. The GHSA started to investigate, but Grayson’s coach left for Clemson before any findings were made.

So all he had to do was leave to stop the investigation? Damn, Hugh Freeze should learn something from that.

I think I speak for the rest of the world when I state that I am shocked by this announcement. Like, can’t leave my home today rattled. Really made me question things, the decision of this high schooler.

Surely you all are not insinuating that the child’s father was offered a job in the Greater Gwinnett area so squire Kameron (With a “K”, thank you) could play football at Grayson High School?

We are insinuating. And don’t call us Shirley.

He’s from Louisville Ky. May be a legit move. But he’s not what I’d call a “recruit.” 13 tackles in 12 games?
Big kid, but I know for a fact that Louisville HS football ain’t exactly like Georgia 6a football. Or even Georgia 3a

that’s something else. can’t say that I really saw that coming.

Georgia = Texas Lite
I’m 40+ years old and this was an everyday deal in Texas in my day… and in my dad’s day…
I’m sure it has been that way in GA that long too; people just didn’t announce it in – the local paper? fliers on the telephone pole? calling all your neighbors from the one corded phone in the whole house?

Yep. Valdosta was doing this in the ’50s, along with a few select others.

Cojones: Yes indeed on that. Georgia Power transferred some folks to Valdosta. Shocked, just shocked, their sons were very good football players. Then transferred back-this was going on in the early 60’s.

Well the high profile coaches are making over $150K a year in Georgia. Just in salary plus all the booster club bonuses probably pushes them closer to 200K. You have to feed the machines with players. Grayson seems to be better at it than most. That’s about 50 grand more than the governor. I don’t begrudge anyone for maximizing their income based on their talents. I just found it interesting

You’re a little high. For 2016-2017, Rush Propst had the highest salary in the state at $132k. There were 36 making over $100k. That doesn’t include the private donations, but those are voluntary, so I don’t care about that.
The next GA governor will make $175k. Of course, that’s only salary and not including the extra benefits that make the job worth the millions people spend on getting elected.

College coaches shouldn’t shoulder all the blame. Grown ass men drooling over and obnoxiously following the every move of teenagers certainly doesn’t help. Btw, anyone know the latest on Derick Hunter? Asking for a friend…

So this means he’ll sign with Bama? Isn’t Grayson now a Bama pipeline? Or at least anyone but Georgia?
Call me paranoid but I’ve always wondered if Bama is many steps ahead of everyone else that they try to get teachers and administrators into these top talent minor league colleges, I mean high schools, to influence college decisions. Teachers do have a lot of influence on kids.

I know we always harp on college amateurism but it seems the big problem stats at the high school level now. Who is gonna try to convince me that this kid’s abilities are a big reason his dad got that job? I’m fairly certain Gwinnett is already full of qualified applicants.

*aren’t a big reason

This kid is not a highly rated recruit. He’s doesn’t have a page on 247. If the online stats are accurate, he’s played in 2 games the past 2 seasons.
Highly doubt he’s getting his dad a high paying job.

Scrolling through the comments with the link, do I understand correctly that Grayson has a “recruiting coordinator”? WTF? Obviously I am a bit naive.

That is a whole other shit show with tons of drama. A lot has been written and talked about that recruiting coordinator. I don’t know how much of it is true.

Some schools have them and they run local gyms. They are there to help with workouts. Take it from there and stay on a downward spiral.

Here in WA state for a visit and all this reminds me of Bellevue High. They ran this to a fine art. Then they set up a “charter school” for kids. Of course most of them were hellacious football players. Funny that crashed. Now everybody is suing everybody. Some of the main funders for the charter school are big shot $$$$$ makers in the Puget Sound area. Never quite figured out why, when one is worth millions, why do they want to sniff jocks, much yet. high school jocks.
