  1. Everyone needs to remember we are 6 years from throwing the Drought on the ash heap of college football history. No talk of ending the series until that’s no longer relevant and only when they come begging for it to end.

  2. This should be in the other post I know, but the only sport I’ll watch is UGA football and I will miss it terribly if they don’t play this fall.
That being said… To Hell With Georgia Tech!!

This series has defined the holidays, all my life. I remember every one since I was seven. It was my grandparents- tech people, and the rare November tension there that I picked up early. It’s my parents to me, and it’ll be a memory of me to my nephews when I’m gone and the game plays on.

I took my nephew to the one shown above (and many others), and he’ll still talk about that play when he’s older than I am now,

In the years where neither team mattered in November- and there have been many, since tech never does- this game still mattered in a way all its own. To those who don’t get it, can’t help you, but you’re missing something that goes as deep as the red and black.

Preach, brother! This is Thanksgiving to me and has been all my life. I was sad when they ended the freshman game as I attended several of those.

I set up a custody schedule in my divorce around this game.

When I first got married and we were splitting up holidays between the families, I always picked Atlanta to visit my family when the Dawgs were playing Tech in Athens. That way I could have dinner with my family and desert with my extended family.

Somebody needs to edit this to have the Curbed theme start right after he says “Can Tech Answer?”

Outside of Atlanta, this series has diminished drastically in intensity. I contend that FL, Auburn, Tennessee, and even South Carolina rate higher than GT in terms of importance to the season. I would rather play Clemson each year than GT.

  6. Just don’t plan on any of the games being very competitive while Kirby is coach.

Random observation, that cross blocking referenced by the announcer, that’s something we saw all the time with Bono/Friend offenses, but seemingly very little with Chaney/Pittman and even less last year. It’s seemed to be a lot more straight line blocking recently. Not saying one is better than the other, but curious to see what the approach will be with the new offensive staff. Those cross blocking plays, when well executed, were always a thing of beauty to watch, especially from angle of the camera directly behind the play.

I don’t want to junk it. I want us to tell them that they are our lower lever FBS opponent and need to play in Sanford every year. Play them instead of your UABs or Louisiana Monroes.

Yes, many of us do want to, at leas, downsize it. It is no longer compelling football, for many on both sides, and the rest of the nation. Noon snooze-fest. Sure it is fun to beat them down, but it has gotten boring now. Once in every four years, in Sanford only; just like Southern was treated. That is enough nostalgia for keeping the memories alive of a rivalry they torched decades ago. If they don’t like the new terms let’s move on, gt football no longer relevant.

    • Think positive, Mac. Geoff can likely field an ACC competitive team from SEC castoffs in a couple of years, and who knows? They could be #2 in the ACC ranked nationally, 22-25 maybe? You don’t think the North Avenue Nerds would be lights out confident about their chances of finally ending the streak only to be run through the wood chipper that is Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs? It would be glorious, Mac. Glorious.

A nothing win, but a terrible loss. That’s all playing GT is good for. The only team GT fans follow more than GT is UGA.

I actually like the games in Atlanta the best. Equal crowd, more history there, we get to shove it down their gold and white throats in the shadow of the Varsity and watch the West stands empty out and the big bee deflate, then drive home in time for all the other stuff that’s happening and a victory dinner. One of the few things that feels as right in the world now as it did when I was twelve.

In the thirties a pre-game riot (involving a bull!) spilled into the street outside Grant and caused hundreds of brawling fans to be jailed before the game. You can still feel that vibe there. Not nostalgia: history.

Just thinking if you want to keep rivals Rivals Fech belongs there but as much so Clem and his Son should also be but for the need of not beating each other up on a national spotlight and confusing scheduling of the Western Carolinas, Louisiana Monroe’s, East Tennessee States. Look at the next 5 years in home scheduling.
Seems as though It is whatever other schools are doing to ensure the easiest way to what the bowl structure used to be before the corporate BCS became a function. ( Note: The Bowls went corporate in the early 70’s ) During these years it was pretty much a beauty pageant before conference alignment which meant even more corporate enhancement.
I profess that these minor league scrimmages are a necessity for the poor, under donated fans who can get in to see their teams. Broaden the fan base if you will. Because (A) Big time donors wont be inviting their business buddies to tee it up against ULM (B) It gives the casual non donating fan a chance to see where the Big Dawg eats.
Back in the day 76-77 Dooley years there was no slighting of schedules open up with California, Clemson and then win, win, win, win, till somehow a lost team couldn’t get by in Oxford, Mississippi, win, win, Florida win, Tech win. Sugar Bowl and a no show against Pittsburg.
