Lateral move news

There have been whispers about this for a while and it’s finally come to fruition.

Jake Rowe confirmed it on the Georgia side.

Hankton’s a Louisiana native, so I can see why the change would be attractive for him.  And I give him credit for doing a solid job with player development.  Georgia’s three-star freshmen wideouts outplayed their more highly-ranked counterparts when it counted last Monday night.  Best of luck to him.

That being said, this gives Smart a chance to realign his offensive staff more favorably, in that Monken’s position specialty has been wide receivers, not quarterbacks.  Finding a dynamic quarterbacks coach who can recruit would be an upgrade, as far as I’m concerned.

Isn’t Buster Faulkner the current QB coach? Are you suggesting, Senator, that UGA move on from him?

Most of these elite kids are already QB-coached out the wazoo. Stetson’s season should prove very fruitful for convincing a can’t-miss guy he can flourish in Athens and max his draft value. It’s a passing game that expands to fit the talents of the guy throwing it.

Finding a WR coach that can recruit would be nice, too. We need some more of those 5 stars.

Watching all the highlights compilation videos from 2021 has made me realize just how amazing our receivers were. The routes and creativity were unlike anything I remember from prior years. I hope we can build on that with future hires.

As RangerRuss said, Kirby has earned the right to tell everybody to shut the fuck up and eat crackers. I am not a bit worried about this. Kirby is on it.

Provided Monken doesn’t bolt for the NFL.

Good point. Senator. By the way. while I am addressing you, wasn’t Jere Morehead a Lumpkin Law classmate of yours?

I’d like to reflect back on Hankton’s time with the program. After a poor showing at the WR position in 2019 (especially after Cager went down with an injury), some doubted whether Hankton can coach em up. Let 2021 stand as a refutation to that. He’s a dang good coach and should have lots of future success. Good luck to him!

I get the going home piece to some degree. But, I honestly don’t understand why someone would leave the NC team for a lateral move. Did they throw a bunch of money at him? Would we not match that?

I appreciate the job Hankton did for us. Nice for him to be able to go home, especially as a National Campion.

It’ll be interesting to see what Smart does. He may slow play hiring the replacement if Monken is in Jeopardy of leaving. I don’t really see an OC in waiting on the staff and you likely want to the new OC to fill as many positions as possible.

UGA hasn’t been pulling in 5 star WRs and while not terrible WR recruiting does have room for improvement. With Smart’s focus on recruiting, it wouldn’t surprise me if Smart wasn’t all that upset with this change. Granted how do you recruit 5 star WRs when you shut the passing game down in the second half most of the season?

Kirby can blame himself for his lack of 5-star WRs. Throw the ball more and the elite WRs will pay more attention to your program.

I bet you’re a lot of fun to be around. Good Lord. You’ve got to be a Tech fan. If not you’re a Karen’s Karen and Debby Downer of the first order. If somebody gave you a ribeye steak you would bitch that they didn’t give you a bone in ribeye. Go find a perfect football team.

Ok. Seems like you have an “observation” for everything and they’re all negative. Roll Tek.

And some people seem to go out of there way to flame their fellow Dawgs when we are all feeling wonderful right now.

Out of my way? I haven’t been counting but I would bet I saw at least four of this type of post from you before I said anything. If that’s going out of my way in your book I think you’re too sensitive. Especially for a guy posting Debbie Downer posts days after Georgia wins a national title. If it’s really surprising to you that nobody wants to hear that kind of shit right now and being told so is getting flamed to you that is really odd.

There were only 1 or 2 5*WR’s in the whole 2022 recruiting class and one of them went to MO.

It isn’t a 1 year gap. McConkey and AD Mitchel produced but we both 3 stars. WR recruiting has been lagging behind other position groups.

That is true and I’ve said the same. But then I looked at the 247 rankings of receiver recruits and where ours stand compared to others. It’s doesn’t really match up with our other recruiting rankings.

It’s a multi-year thing, and I’m thinking more of Top 100 (overall) WR instead of just five stars. We didn’t sign a single Top 100 WR in 2021 and haven’t gotten one in 2022 either.

Coach Monken should be allowed to hire any WR coach he wishes.
It is Coach Smarts job to fine the money and pay Coach Monken’s man.
Also it is Coach Smart’s job to PAY Monken whatever it takes.

Why the heck not hire Ward soon to be NFL Hall of Famer who actually wants the job.

The most confusing “lateral” move so far this off season is Kimber to Florida. Well, it’s not really a lateral move, but rather a couple of steps back, but you get my point. He most likely would be starting next year opposite Ringo. When he entered the portal, I figured he was home sick and going back to Texas.

Hankton could stayed in Athens for the next 10+ years. Go to LSU in a lateral move and be fired in 3, maybe 4, years.

    • I agree. The corn dogs are going to chew up and spit out that fake ass head coach they just hired in less than 3 years IMHO. Hankton will be back on the market soon enough.
