It may not be Montana…

Quick observation from Stewart Mandel’s online magazine ($$):

If anybody in the ACC needed a reminder last month, they needed to look no further than the site of their May meetings in Amelia Island, Fla. There, inside the Ritz-Carlton gift shop, was a line of golf shirts available for purchase.

They featured four different color blocks of Georgia Bulldogs polos.

I wonder if anyone had trouble identifying the logo.

Reading the article, and just remembering recent history, nobody in college sports administration seems to have learned a damn thing from years of NBA and NFL salary negotiations, much less, long term conference tv deals. How many times has someone jumped at a long term deal only to realize, a couple years later it’s already below market value, and will get way worse every year?

The college suits are way out of their depth, and the yes men they hire to negotiate these great deals laugh all the way to the bank. The SEC seems to be locked into a deal for more money than their current way below market deal…. that will be way below market by the time it begins, because the Big Ten is about to sign a billion dollar deal. And the college suits will pout and fret just like Scottie Pippen or Andre Rison or the ACC. Congratulations for playing yourselves

Miami has it right. They will not be able to compete with facilities as the Gap widen’s. But their alumni base can make sure they can compete with salary and perks for players. And with no applicable rules and no cap….

The NFL is considered one of, if not the best ran league in sports. Even they had to institute a salary cap, to prevent them from spending themselves into the ground.

Going to enjoy college football while I can. Not sure what it will look like in 2-4 years and not sure how long the self-correction will take. 🙂
