I really don’t know how you how you top this quote from the shining star of the Jackets’ class of 2013 (they’ve got three commitments now, in case you’ve lost count):
“Florida State was ranked in the top 10 in computers, while Georgia Tech was in the top three. So I chose the school with the best academics. I don’t really care about the football part. I just want the best degree I can get, as far as the field I want to study. That’s Georgia Tech.” [Emphasis added.]

It’s probably safe to assume this kid’s not going to be a force in lobbying other recruits to join him on the Flats. Unless there’s a kicker from Mumbai Paul Johnson’s high on.
As I’ve said before, Georgia Tech has to be the only major football program out there that negatively recruits itself. It’s a gift, I guess.

I’ve kind of got mixed emotions about ragging a kid for this kind of thinking. Yeah, he may be a nerd, but are his priorities wrong? Maybe voicing them in the context of an athelete trying to convince others of why they should also sign with GT (if that’s what the context or setting was) is kind of strange. Maybe it’s even very strange.
I guess what makes his statement noticeable is that it does seem so nerdy, esp coming from an athelete. It’s different from what we usually hear from football signees.
Maybe he’s trying to convince athletes from CalPolyTech to transfer to GT.

I think a lot of it had to do with UGA cooling off on him because he wanted to be a package deal with Hall. Naturally, this isn’t something he would say publicly.

Devine must not be as smart as portrayed. If he were picking a college on academics alone from the list shown it should’ve been Southern Cal. Also, if he is so committed to Tech why is he still taking 2 visits to other schools? I thought that would result in his Tech offer being pulled a la the “Johnson Doctrine.”

Well, if he decides to de-commit (or if PJ actually follows his own doctrine and withdraws GT’s offer to him), and then accepts from a scholarship from a school of lower academic standing, he’s going to be hard pressed to explain his change of heart. We have to remember that these kids get pressured to make a decision and then use whatever propaganda they have been fed to justify a decision they may be questioning in their own heart. This looks like just such a “statement” to me.

Let me just say that Tech Comp Sci program didnt get to #3 in any rankings by excepting 3.0 GPA students from Tri-Cities. Unless that guy is a programming genius, he is going to be on the M-Train like every other athlete.
He is also taking 2 more official visits…wonder if we will get another test of the Johnson doctrine.

A 6′ 7″, 331lb, 4-star Georgia O lineman hasn’t heard from UGA in over a month? That’s the second time this year I’ve seen Rodney’s recruiting responsibility take a hit (remember the one that Rodney told was “weak” year before last and never seemed to check back until God and everybody was recruiting him?). We may be getting an idea why we aren’t getting all the good O linemen recruited from this state.

Or maybe the guy never had any interest in UGA. His quote sure seems to indicate his teachers told him not to go to UGA if he wanted to do the Computer science, no-girl having thing in college. If so, why waste any more time on the guy? Why immediately jump to the conclusion that Garner is not doing his job?

I agree that the teachers helped turn his head, but as a UGA grad who is aware of what we offer when compared to Tech academically, I submit that the teachers don’t know Georgia nor our academic reputation among major colleges. If you are enamored with Engineering Technology, OK, but if it is Science overall, the teachers don’t know squat about UGA. When I attended UGA, we were one of three Universities considered tops in Biological Science by the National Science Foundation. The other two were Columbia and Stanford. The number of electron microscopes on campus at that time (as compared to other campuses) were such that an EM Dept was created with the NSF funds awarded as the Regional-best-in-Biological Science campus. That doesn’t even begin to touch all the other scientific endeavors on our campus.

He had interest in UGA, no doubt.. one my initial understandings is we got soft on him because he blew up, got out of shape, etc.. he got his feelings hurt from that. My thinks we’ve got just better OL in the pipeline or just didn’t feel like this guy was gonna work out.

.. and just for note, he was measured recently at 360 (rivals). compare that to one of the best tackles in last years class (Theus) at 6’6 292. Jarvis would run circles around this guy.. granted he doesn’t have to worry about pass blocking since they don’t pass.. unfortunately UGA has to worry about that

Think the quote was awkward, but he looked great at the camps and is an intelligent kid. I wanted him at UGA and I am not sure what happened there. I have heard the package deal thing but I think his friend is worthy of an offer on his own as well. Who knows though, I am hardly an expert. The OL talent is deep this year so hopefully we will get some great ones at UGA as well to go with our current great OL commit from South Georgia. I wish him the best of luck.

Speaking of recruitment, just saw that Daryl Jones has been hired as our recruiting coordinator. Reading his resume, we come to the last dangler “and assistant coach at Grayson High School”. Let’s see, that’s where Nkemdiche goes to school. Any connection that the first/second best HS player knows him as a coach and that might help his recruitment?

I just don’t get the constant negativity. I can appreciate a healthy level of pessimism from the Munson that exists in all of us, but what’s the point in following a sports team if you can’t get some semblance of joy out of it? I guess I don’t see the point of following a team if all it does is piss you and off and doesn’t make you happy. Sports and entertainment are supposed to be a form of escape from the other things in life that piss you off and don’t make you happy. Just my $0.02.
