Do as I say, not as I do.

Urban Meyer, straight shooter:

“You owe it to college football to play at least one top 10 team outside your conference,” Gators coach Urban Meyer said. “Most teams don’t do that.”

That would include his own, of course.  Unless he knows there’s something going on in Tallahassee that the rest of us don’t.

It is not mathematically possible for each team in the conference to play a top 10 team. There are only 10 of those teams around and 50+ BCS conference teams.

    I mean 60+.

  3. I think Meyer really is referring to upper echelon teams, as opposed to every team in the conference, but even with that, your point still stands. (Although it could be argued that “Top 10” isn’t static, in that the polls change weekly).

    The whole thing is BS.

The 2007 schedule was fixed before he was hired. Next year Florida plays Miami in addition to FSU, both of whom could be a top 10 teams.

  5. With regard to the ’07 schedule, that’s not completely true, is it? Wasn’t UCF on the Gator’s schedule, then dropped out and was replaced with Western Kentucky?

Don’t get me wrong – I’m not knocking UF’s schedule. There are four ranked teams on it right now. But give me a break with this “most teams don’t do that” stuff.

And as for Miami, the defense is great, but there aren’t very many top 10 teams with a complete cipher at quarterback.
