To date, this is a fair description of the debate:

Head to head as starters, Stafford gets the nod, as he threw for 3 touchdowns in last season’s 42-30 whitewashing of the Tebow-led Gators in Jacksonville.

There’s always a lot of trash talk about Tebow and Stafford. I think each has his strengths and weaknesses. Honestly, though, I get sick of all the Tebow bashing. Whether you like it or not, he is one of the great players in college football. He may not be a pure passer, but he fits in the system which he plays in. Furthermore, people want to bring up who will be the better NFL QB; at this point, I don’t care.
I am glad we have Stafford, but I will also give Tebow his props, but not to drool over him like Chris Fowler.

Of coarse as a dawg fan I’m going to say Stafford. If you judge purely off statistics then Tebow is the clear winner. However when I think of what a QB should be Stafford is the mold I would use. I just prefer a QB to be the distribution center for the offense. He hands the ball off to the RB’s, throws the ball to the WR’s and runs only when being chased.
I’ve thrown several sarcastic comments at Teb[l]ow on this site and many others before but I truly have nothing but respect for the kid. He just happens to play for the team I abhor more than any other. However as a father of 2 boys, he’s the kind of young man I would like for my boys to become. With exception to the whole University of Florida, jort wearing thing.

A Quarterback is a Quarterback. A running back is a running back. Matthew Stafford can throw the football down the field. There is only 1 comment to say about a Quarterback. He either can throw the football, or he is a running back in a different – non-NFL offense.
So, what do we have ?
Tim Tebow cannot throw deep. Never has been able to. Never will be able to. It is why he wanted to play in this style of an offense.
He is also not very durable. His injuries mount and missed opportunities to play at the top of his game – which is a running game.
All Tebow wants to talk about is getting to Atlanta.
1-4 vs. the Top 25 Final AP Poll teams; that is what Tim Tebow is.
By direct comparison, Matthew Stafford was 3-1 vs. the Top 25 Final AP Poll teams.
What Chris Leak did, instead, the previous year doesn’t count for Tim Tebow. No matter how you try to say Tim Tebow was the Quarterback for the MNC, he was NOT.
As for the Heisman Trophy. That trophy is a piece of crap. It always has been. It continues to be. The votes are made with the 2 most important months of TELLING FOOTBALL not yet played.
It has NEVER been the deciding factor of which Quarterback is the better QUARTERBACK. As a matter of fact, if the Heisman Trophy is anything, it is in fact a clear indication of the fact that the Winner of the Heisman Trophy will be a FLOP.
Now with all that said that must be said to these comments and chosen words of the article in question, allow me to make a point please : Matthew Stafford has a lot of work to do to improve his game, still.
Potential is one thing. To lead the Number 2 team in the nation in the Final AP Poll is why he came here from Texas. Coach Richt has racked up the best pedigree of quarterbacks through UGA that any coach in America has accomplished.
For all the talent we had again last year across the board, we did not have a good passing offense last season again for his 2nd year of such, and we did not have a good total offense despite the plethora of running backs and solid OL play.
This season, despite placing 9 in the NFL today from last year’s team (4 drafted, 5 free agent contracts) for a program which already had 37 on Opening Day NFL Rosters last year (3 programs had more – none in The SEC), we actually have all our players back and added key components across the board.
UGA cannot be the Number 83 Passing Offense in the NCAA and the Number 74 Total Offense in the NCAA.

The problem with Florida is that they still do not have a Passing Defense, which is all the more amazing given their propensity in that scheme to run the football.
Florida, led by Tebow, was a Top 25 Rushing Offense last season and a Top 15 Total Offense as a result.
Yet, Florida not only Lost 4 of their 5 football games last year against Top 25 Final AP Poll teams, but could not protect their Passing Defense from the likes of Matthew Stafford.
Or, any other quarterback for a Top 25 team.
Our Defense, for example, totally annihilated Tim Tebow.
And, our Quarterback clearly did too – like every other Top 25 Quarterback destroyed Tim Tebow all season long in his 1st year as a Starter.
Give the nice kid a number on his back. That’s what the Heisman Trophy did.
But, don’t tell me The SEC doesn’t have Quarterbacks. UGA is chalk full of them, and has been since the day 20 December 2000 when Vince Dooley took the phone call from Coach Richt at 2 a.m.
I do not know about Georgia Southern. All they did last season was beat Appalachian State right after Appalachian State beat Michigan who dismantled Tebow-led Florida in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando. Just like every other Final AP Poll Top 25 team did all season long.
But, I can assure you that South Carolina, Arizona State, Alabama, Tennessee, LSU, then Florida, then Auburn, then Tech, then the SEC West Champion maybe LSU again, then the BCS Bowl Opponent all think that they can line up and play 13 games like we did last year and throw 19 Touchdowns total while rushing for 2. I was very disappointed in South Carolina and Tennessee; but loved the run to end the season beating 3 in a Row Top 25 Final AP Poll Teams to end the season and start us atop the Polls for this up-coming season. I would rather be Georgia today, than Florida.

I’d rather have Matthew Stafford than Tim Tebow and his worthless Heisman Trophy. One is a Quarterback. I said the same thing about Reggie Bush; that he would NEVER be a Running Back in the NFL, but a receiver/return man. Tim Tebow will NEVER be a Quarterback in the NFL, but a running back for about 4 years.

So true. That’s why the penalty is called ‘roughing the PASSER’ and not ‘roughing the rusher.’

They played once and Stafford won (with a superior supporting cast I am proud to say). They play this year, and if Stafford wins, he wins the series vs. Tebow because he will have won a minimum of two out of three, should both even come back for their senior years. Although, Peyton Manning NEVER beat Florida yet there is simply no question he was the best QB in the SEC during those years. I think they are about even, but the national pundits favor Tebow…so far. Stafford has so much room for improvement, and I think it actually pends most on how our receivers and O-line play. Fact is: he was hitting guys and they were dropping passes early last season.

Lets trade defenses and see how many wins Stafford would get. Saying Stafford is better because he has more wins is the dumbest shit in the world. Tebow scored more points hence helped his team more….that’s all he can do.

All I said in this thread if it’s a choice between a quarterback who’s had a fantastic season statistically and a quarterback whose team has had a more successful season, I’m happier with the latter.
