First off, yes, the ESPN play-by-play is not accurate. As you watch the replay (start at the 5:55 mark),
… you’ll see that the back first gets popped by Rashad Jones on the arm carrying the ball, Darryl Gamble sticks his hand in, knocks the ball free and Battle brings the back down as he loses the ball.
That being aside, what I remember most is letting a huge breath escape from my chest when the defense made this play. The thought of experiencing back to back losses to Vandy is not something I wanted to contemplate.
And you wonder what we in the Dawgnation would be thinking of Richt and the program today if this play had never happened and the Commodores had gone on to score. On that level, you could say this was the biggest play of the season.
Get The Picture 
This was the biggest play of the year and I figured that is where you would put it. It is not a sexy pick but this play had to happen for last season to happen.

I was on a weekend trip to the beach watching this game in a restaurant and almost lost my lunch, if you know what I mean. I was growing sicker by the minute thinking we might suffer a loss at the hands of the mighty ‘dores once again. Had Gamble not made this play, I probably would’ve just stayed at the beach and turned into a mumbling, unshaven recluse.
My family thanks you, Mr. Gamble, for giving me the ability to return to a normal life as a husband and father. You truly are an inspiration to Dawg fans and families throughout the world!
Props to Brandon, as well. It was good to finally see him get that game winner. Strange to think it took until his Sr. year to do it. He’ll be sorely missed. Hopefully Walsh will come in and pick up where Coutu left off.

Yeah, I was whining that entire game at the local watering hole. Last three games against Vandy are a nailbiter win, a nailbiter loss, and a mere workmanlike dismissal (albeit against probably the best Vandy team in years). A strenuous beatdown of these guys would be much appreciated this year.

I still like seeing Richt getting fired up at the end of the game at what he thought was taunting by the players. I believe that’s when his Evil Richt alter ego began to manifest.
As far as the play, it was HUGE! Even after we won I was still sick to my stomach because I felt like we should have lost to Vandy for the 2nd consecutive year.
I have to agree with DNN about a strenuous beat down this year. I don’t want to run up the score or anything but just a good man-handling would be nice.

Nah, run up the score. On both them and Kentucky for giving their all to lose to Tennessee at the end of the year. (Not that we didn’t do anything different, of course…)

thank god for gamble… that strip was so huge. i remember that being WAY more exciting of a game than it should have been (and also, way too stressful)
