Truth.

Mike Bobo acknowledges the obvious.

“Yeah, we had some productive numbers and all that, some good stats, but that really doesn’t mean anything,” said Bobo, who recently received a $57,500 raise to take his salary to $325,000 annually. “We lost three games, got blown out in two of them and basically disappeared in stretches of those games and then lost to our archrival, Georgia Tech, in our last game.

“I’m excited about getting out again and getting going. I’m glad we came back in the last game and beat Michigan State in the bowl game and ended on a positive note, but there’s still a bad taste in our mouths around here.”

That’s all I wanted – to hear a coach say what most of us have been grousing about for months.  Nothing about the schedule.  Or the injuries.  Or how unbelievable some of Georgia’s opponents were.  Just that the staff and the players didn’t get the job done as most of us would have liked.

That’s a good start.  Maybe that ship’s getting tightened after all.

  4. I know it’s ridiculously early to speak of anything like this considering we still have spring practice, summer workouts, academic casualties, off-field incidents, injuries, and fall practice to go through before the Dawgs suit up against Oklahoma State in September. I don’t expect the Dawgs to win the SEC. Heck, I don’t even expect them to win the East. I truly believe this team is shaping up to be the best team fielded under Mark Richt.

Good to have someone just say it out loud

I am feeling better about 2009 the more I hear people come out and say what we all saw instead of trying to hide it

Exactly. That’s all I want to hear as well. And with that, I’m confident that we’re addressing some of those issues now, so that they won’t be occurring this upcoming season.

It’s possible I’m just tired, so forgive me.

Are you saying your expectation is a national championship? What’s the point of going through the “I don’t expect us to win the East” if we have to win the SEC [East] to get to that goal?

  8. I agree. That is exactly what I want to hear from one of our coaches.

  9. @Paul – It’s kinda counterintuitive, I agree. I just feel this team has the makings of something truly special like 2002 or 2005. I can’t in good conscious pick anyone over the Gators right now, though. I should have added a “However,..” to begin that last sentence.
