Why do people act like he is some great man for doing things like this? To me this just seems mean and paranoid. Making a college decision isn’t easy, and it can only be harder when playing sports is involved. It’s only natural for a guy to have second thoughts, especially when they see Tech have the season they just had. I think this just makes Johnson look like a bully, but maybe I see it through red-tinted glasses.

I agree. It’s like a super possessive boyfriend. If he’s some great recruiter, have faith in your recruiting tactics and trust that the guys that end up there are going to be more passionate about it than if they’re “forced” into making a decision.

Paul Johnson is a bully. If he manages to get a kid to commit to Tech early, he knows that kid’s pretty likely to decommit if they see what other schools have to offer (like girls, a campus where they won’t get stabbed or shot, girls, parties, and dining options where the staff doesn’t wear paper hats) the recruit will most likely end up going elsewhere. So, he makes an example of the kids who go exploring, hoping to bully his other recruits to stay in the flock, hopeful not to lose their offers.
Forget what CPJ does with this kid. I would love to see what would happen if his entire commit class were to take their visits. Just how strong are those principles?
Also, Paul Johnson has a turkey neck.

Johnson obviously views a scholarhip offer from Tech (read…from Paul Johnson) as some kind of a sacred pact.
As challenging as recruiting at Tech already is, you gotta wonder if this is a realistic approach.
I am glad Terrence Moore finds Johnson so attractive. Maybe they should move in together.

Rag on Johnson if you want, but there’s a part of me that wishes George O’Leary had taken that kind of hardass attitude when Quincy Carter’s eye started wandering back in 1996-’97.

Yes, I tell people all the time of the two Quincy Carter theory.
See there’s the LSU Quincy who looks like the next best QB ever.
Then there is the 5 int SC Quincy who you wonder has ever played a down of football.
When my Dallas Cowboy friend asked me about him, I told him about the 2 Quincys. Not long after Quincy joined the ‘Boys he told me how right I was.

If Johnson is so great a coach, and Tech is such a paradise in which to play football and matriculate, why not let kids look elswhere, because they will always come back to Tech no matter what. Right?

Exactly. Tech is a great school to attend, provided you don’t care about women, sports, fun, or socializing with American classmates.

In answer to the question posed by the header: No. T. Moore (or less) recognizes genius and believes that genius must not be questioned because we cannot possibly understand the workings of a genius. And remember it was T. Moore (or less) who so wisely predicted in late November 2008 that as long as Paul the Johnson coaches tech, UGA will never beat him.
