Always a good listen, he’s got lots to say about the learning curve in his second year, which opponent’s offense was the toughest to coach against last season and recruiting.

Understand you point, but this was Grantham “the teacher” at his best. Not drinking the Kool-Aid, but do believe we see improvement in the second year.

Completely agree and no doubt we should be much better on defense, but call me jaded after hearing all the offseason talk year after year.

yeah, petrino is a hell of a play caller. an arkansas drive just has this clear logical trajectory after the fact but at the same time doesn’t give itself away.

To a defense it isn’t a “4th quarter thang”, it is a “3rd down thang” and last year’s defense may have been the worst I have ever seen about not getting off the field, especially in critical situations. I hope he is more successful this year at performance, not sound bites.

More “Dawg Porn” (as you like to call it, Senator) from Grantham. We can’t expect anything but talk at this point in the year with football still roughly 100 days away.
Still, the man knows the right things to say. Hopefully it gets through to the players in time for Sept 3 at around 8 pm.

I’m less interested in the learning curve than I am in whether players are in condition, can tackle, and can play smash-mouth against anyone on the line of scrimmage. Otherwise, the best x’s and o’s coach in the world isn’t going to make much of a difference. I’m not convinced the learning curve was our #1 problem on D last year. This staff isn’t going to out-smart other teams. Our problem is still basic fundamentals.

+1. The D-linemen were as out of shape last year as the o-linemen. That’s why they couldn’t stop the run up the middle which was the basic problem last season on D.
